Romantic 8-bit love songs

Post by J T »

I want to make a mixtape of romantic 8-bit love songs. What would you guys suggest for it?

I'm looking for anything that is sweet, sultry, smooth, tender, warm, and romantic from the 3rd generation of consoles or 4th gen handhelds. Anything 8-bit, essentially. So grab some chardonnay, slip on your robe, and lets sit by the fire listening to the most nerdy romantic music possible.

YouTube or download links appreciated.

First thing that came to mind: Chibi-Tech - A--nie Rabu Damon

NSF 90's R&B - bleeped out cursing and sounds of love done in squarewave
A friend of mine is a guru on chiptune and the like and he personally recommended it. At the same time he said I should listen to the Tree of Knowledge ~知恵の樹~ album. It might have some tracks you're looking for? I wasn't really into it; I'll ask him for some suggestions tho - he's probably got a whole cd worth off the top of his head...

Tree of Knowledge

Gotta say, I have left chiptunes going on the stereo while entertaining girls, and it's totally awesome!

 That song was awesome. It sounds so damn smooth, as if it really had an RnB singer.

I am wanting to make a mix that is just songs from game soundtracks, no chiptunes, but I have to admit that song fit the description better than any OST track I can think of.

Mother intro

Final Fantasy Adventure into

Phantasy Star Adventure into (cuts off pretty early - after one loop - sadly, there must be a better version out there)

Ys - Feena (couldn't find a standalone version, first track that plays)

Ys II - A Still Time (again, could't find it on its own, the PCE tracks are even better sounding but you wanted 8-bit  )

I'm working on it! Will you be doing a 16-bit mix eventually too, J T?

Also, does the TG-16 count as 8-bit for you?

EDIT: In the interest of time, here are some I can think of off the top of my head.

Sweet/Cute:

Final Fantasy Legend III (GB): Underwater Theme
Gimmick! (NES): Sophia
Lee Travino's Fighting Golf (NES): Japan Course
Parasol Stars: The Story of Bubble Bobble III (TG16): True Ending
Smurf's Nightmare (GB): Another World (Mysterious Planet)
Sonic the Hedgehog (SMS): Bridge Zone
Super Columns (GG): Ending/Credits
Wai Wai World 2 (NES): Ending Theme

Smexy:

V-Rally Championship Edition(GB): Car Select
Wario Blast(GB): World 7

I feel the love! I feel the love! I feel the love!

Thanks for the recommendations so far. I'm not finished listening to everything yet, but I wanted to just say that the Erik the Viking song is amazing! I had never heard of that, which makes sense, since I have now found out that it wasn't released. I listened to a little more of the soundtrack and I really like what I have heard so far. I'm going to have to find the whole thing.

I'll share a few of my own favorites.

Ninja Gaiden- Ending Theme:

There are spoilers in the video of the game's ending. It's one of my favorite romantic moments from back in the NES days though, so I wanted to include it. This was the first thing that came to mind.

Willow- Zhena's Theme I

This song has two lovely melodies that have brilliant intersecting harmonics.

This isn't 8-Bit, JT, but I love the Animal Crossing song, KK Love Song. It's definitely chill, fits a nice bit of ambience, perhaps you could dig it.
