I don't know, I saw Suicide Squad today and it was pretty entertaining. Very little Batman which was a bonus.

It sort of felt like the HQ and Deadshot show, but that makes sense.

I listened to the old time radio drama of this story a few months ago. It's odd that the title is basically a spoiler for the major 'revelation' of the plot. Was anyone ever surprised that the most dangerous game was man? Still, it's a creepy fun story. I never expected the hunter to be a weird bearded guy though. In the radio drama he sounds like a sophisticated man of wealth with a dark side. I expected him to be more cleaned up and aristocratic.

You all need to see Kubo & the Two Strings so it'll do better in the box office. Quality films like this need encouragement.

The trailer looked cool. How about a spoiler free mini review?

So, first of all, the animation is really nice. It's got a really good style to it, some of it coming from the mechanics of stop motion. it's a fairly standard hero's journey, but it's quite well told. There's just enough humor to break up the tense moments, and has some very unexpected reveals. And the treatment of the Japanese setting is quite well done. There's a lot of little references that showed they did the research, but it isn't all "look at how Japan we are!"

Plus, it's got George Takei in it and he gives an "oh my".

Oh he is. The image I linked was of one of his servants, whom the hero takes out with mantraps. Here's the aristocratic Count Zarkoff:

He's a master shot with both the rifle and the bow, his preferred weapon. He's still got the beard, but he is definitely sophisticated.

Fantastic, laid back, beautiful film. It's in the vein of David Lynch's The Elephant Man, more grounded and traditional compared to his weird norm. The Walt Disney connection definitely threw me off.

Maybe it's because it's the first film in over four years that I've seen in theaters or maybe it's because the theater in Kill Devil Hills is nice AF, but Suicide Squad was...
total crap.

KIDDING!

IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Really, really, REALLY hope that the R-rated cut I heard about comes out.

This was absolutely dreadful. I was completely bored. Ultra serious, sterile paper thin characters, everyone whispered throughout the entire movie but I guess it didn't matter since the dialogue was atrocious. Sure, I got to see some cool Predator action again, but I could have rewatched the original and had 10x more fun.

I love the original but that's it. I am so happy Alien has finally once again broken free from this franchise and is doing its own thing again. The Predator series became a boring slasher. I'd rather watch Friday the 13th or something for more charm and laughs.

Goddamn masterpiece. This was incredible. Arnold even seemed more dangerous here than he does in Predator. This is the Arnold I love, pre-T2 Arnold where he slaughters everyone with no remorse. One man army near the end. Some of the greatest one liners ever. Stick around. And the music was amazing, I instantly knew it was the Aliens guy with that ONE sound effect I'm sure fans know I'm talking about who've seen this and Aliens haha.

Image

Arnold is... kind of the bad guy? This was a different side of Arnold, kind of. He still kills everyone and the final shootout is fantastic. It hilariously felt like a Steven Segal movie and plot, but with Arnold. One of the best loadout/gearing up scenes ever. Amazing music here too.

This was a rewatch, haven't seen this one in years and man does it hold up awesomely. 1987 the year I was born, this is the 80's incarnate, a time capsule. It felt a lot like a precursor to Total Recall in ways too, had a vibe striking between that and Robocop for me. Maybe with some Mad Max Thunderdome and Demolition Man thrown in. What a blast.

Don't care what people think, the Arnold movies are some of my favorites. I need to own all of them.
