Ha, I actually have all of those wishlisted except for the enhanced Icewind Dale...but I have both the original and ID2 already. I have all of the Gothics, Elder Scrolls, Gold Boxes, Ultimas, Might & Magics, Shadowruns, Bards Tales(technically), so on and so forth. I've always felt I didn't have the chops to say I was a big WRPG fan. I'm trying to change that.
So here is my experience with these choices and my thoughts on them:
I've put a lot of time into Morrowind and know I enjoy it. I've just never beaten it. Funny enough, I've cleared the expansions and not beaten the main game.
I've spent a little time clearing the first two floors of the first Eye of the Beholder, but that was a few years back. It would also count as a SNES game, since there are only cosmetic changes between the original PC release and the SNES port. I prefer to do this on the PC so I can port my characters through the series.
Ultima III I want to beat so I can say I've knocked out the original Ultima trilogy. It'll be a badge of honor I suppose. Heck, I want to eventually get through all of the mainline Ultimas if possible.
Menzo I'm interested in because it's a one off but would also help prep me for the Ravenloft games, though I find Drizzt incredibly overused. He's like the Wolverine of Forgotten Realms.
Gothic I've only just tried out, but I did beat Piranha Bytes' later game Risen, and I enjoyed it. That is a big part of why I took an interest in Gothic.
What RPG are you playing right now?

Protip: Just play through VII and its expansion and call it done.Ack wrote:Heck, I want to eventually get through all of the mainline Ultimas if possible.
Now that's good news. I recently bought Risen 1-3 on 360 because of course I did.Ack wrote:I did beat Piranha Bytes' later game Risen, and I enjoyed it.
Of everything I listed earlier, I think you playing through VtMB as a malkavian would be immensely entertaining. Both for yourself and for us readers.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I hear Risen 3 is a very different (i.e. much worse) experience than the first two games.

Ultima III can be a very frustrating experience because of how it handles the combat. Only the characters who get the killing blow get experience, which means you have to do a lot of planning to ensure your party members don't become loads. The experience curve also seems to be kind of crappy, so it takes a lot of grinding to get your party to reasonable levels. It's definitely a game to beat for historical reasons but I'd say you should play Morrowind first.

I have played Vampire only a couple of times in my life. Not the video game, the actual table top/LARP. My first character was a Malkie who was both obsessive compulsive and a priest. We were discussing the possibility of me getting True Faith when the game ended, but as I considered mental illness to be a blessing from God which I could inflict, the other players tended to avoid me.Exhuminator wrote:Of everything I listed earlier, I think you playing through VtMB as a malkavian would be immensely entertaining. In the second game, I was a Nosferatu boxer who wore Hawaiian shirts and had no nose. I could eat food and then would projectile vomit out of my nose cavity. I also had a zoo hidden in the city sewer system.
I was never asked back again to play. I don't know why.

Yep. You're the right guy for VtMB malky style.

Like Ack I am going through the Ultimas - hopefully the first six this year. But unlike him, I am more prone to "cheat" when presented with archaic design or poor planning leading to no win situations. So with that issue, I will just stop every once and a while and use the save editor to even out the exp load.MrPopo wrote:Ultima III can be a very frustrating experience because of how it handles the combat. I will also second that you need to be Morrowind. Use the Severed Nord leg if you have to but those Cliffracers must die!

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I started Tales of Eternia today. I didn't wanna pay a FORTUNE for the American version, and even considered emulating it, but when I saw that I could get the Japanese version for like 8 bucks, I jumped at the chance. I'm understanding the text of the story fairly well so far, but all of the skits are only audio, which I'm much slower at understanding. It really sucks because the skits are mah favorite part ;A;
Other than that, it's pretty fun so far. The nuance and depth to how you can program your AI teammates is actually really surprising for a game that old.
