Stranger Things is excellent. I'm on episode 5 out of 8 and it is super intense! Love the 80's vibe, such a great show so far.

Yeah but those bikes are all wrong. Back in 82 or 84, whatever time period this show was, we had mongoose style bikes or kuwahara like ET. Nobody rode bikes with banana seats and those U Handlebars. I was a bmx whore back then and knew my bikes lol.

Oh my god! The Get Down is so damn good! You guys have got to watch this! I just watched the 90 minute pilot and I am so hooked. It's set in 1977 during the birth of hip hop. It's got disco, it's got Star Wars, it's got breakin, it's got Shaolin Kung Fu, it's got graffitti, it's got parkour, it's got style for days!

It's directed by Baz Luhrman (Moulin Rouge, Romeo+Juliet, Great Gatsby) and it has all of the style, speed, and heart he has come to be known for. There is a cast full of talented actors and musicians that make this new show something truly special.

After finishing up Stranger Things, I think it's finally time to tackle Twin Peaks. Big fan of most of Lynch's stuff and I've seen the pilot before, probably going to love it. Though I've heard weird things about season 2.

Every time the writers introduce a new weapon, new technology, or new rule it becomes part of the series canon and will come up again in future episodes. This is both a blessing and a curse for Stargate. It's wonderful early on, but this canonical writing approach will bog down the series seven or eight seasons from now.

It's a strange feeling to watch a series I love so much, knowing full well that it doesn't end pretty. I think I'm just going to watch the first five seasons, and let it end there for me.
Is it downhill after that or something?
A lot of troubles plagued the series after season five. Most of them can be blamed on budget cuts. SG-1 moved from Showtime (big budget) to Sci-Fi channel (sharknado budget). The sfx cuts are the most obvious problems, but not the only ones. The costume department gets slashed. A lot of the actors take off seasons or their characters get killed off unceremoniously - presumably because the actors wanted more money than the execs wanted to pay.

The worst budget cuts were to the writers staff. This is a big problem for a canonical serial program. If it was just an episodic space adventure, then it's not such a big deal to have a few poor episodes because every adventure ends on the status quo. With Stargate, bad writing hurts the whole ongoing established universe.
