Website dedicated to Retro Asian gaming!

Post by Trenton_net »

Hey everyone,

I haven't really visited the forums as much as I would have liked, but I figured I'd give a friendly heads up just in case anyone was interested! As you may or may not know, I'm a big fan of Asian retro video games. For the longest time I've visited obscure corners of the Internet to talk about game copiers, strange Chinese hardware, odd Asian video games, and other stuff.

Unfortunately, it seems that this kind of information is starting to die out. For example, the the Tototek forums generously allowed users to share and talk about Copier information, modification, and sales when no other place really existed for that. But as time goes on, more and more of the 'old-timers' who knew loads about this stuff are starting to move on to greener pastures. Once I started seeing old friends disappear from the forums, I decided I better do something before it was too late!

So to that end, I decided to parley my own computer knowledge and experience to start a website dedicated to preserving and sharing Asian retro video gaming, culture, and everything in between. Finally perhaps, a centralized place where we can save all that kind of information before it gets lost for good?

I know most of my friends on Racket Boy are deeper into western releases, but I figured I'd still put this out there in case anyone I didn't know was a fan of the subject! :-) Cheers, and perhaps I might see some of you soon!

Shoot, son, we've done articles about the likes of the iQue player and tried researching some stuff on obscure Chinese handhelds. I'm glad to see somebody's working on this. The last thing I want to see is the knowledge be lost. Keep up the good fight.

Hey! Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. Because not everyone has the skills to setup a website or the motivation to want to preserve this stuff, I figure I can't wait around for someone else to do it.

If it's just about general gaming, then Racket Boy does that already beautifully! But for Asian stuff, I can't really think of any easily accessible English resource for it. Anyway, if anyone has information, documentation, or anything they think needs to be saved, please do feel free to register and shoot me a message. The more collaboration we can get, the more we can save before all that knowledge gets lost in the void.

I take it the difference is unlike Tokugawa Corporate, this new forum focuses more on the Chinese gaming side?

I guess I'm splitting hairs, but for all you're saying, there is no website, just a forum with almost no posts. Perhaps develop a real site with some solid content with a forum as a secondary to discuss such things as that would be more valuable resource.

This. I can find a lot of what interests me on different forums, but a website that showcases it all with facts would be better.

Well, my intention is to encompass all kinds of areas of Asian gaming, not just Chinese. It just happens that I'm starting with some Chinese content first.

@Tanooki: Your points are well taken! :-) Given that I only opened my doors on Monday so that some early contributors could get access, it isn't surprising that there is a lack of downloads, content, and information. Naturally, only people who are conscientious about the subject and have knowledge to share/preserve will be interested at first. People who are brave enough to post questions directly on the forums so that knowledge experts can reply can probably get answers, but otherwise it will take some time before a solid repository is available for just 'general' looking at.
