Got an offbeat related question here. Today I found some 1989 Applause Nintendo figurines, a set of 12 exist. I ended up getting 8 of them, 6 totally sealed, one pulling away, and 1 is loose. The trick is the sealed stuff some tool years ago cut the card back out around the plastic seal pretty close to the edge to save space I guess.
They're new, but they're cardback damaged. How would someone even being to value a guess at what these are worth? I know a sealed up King Hippo went for $100 on ebay, the others I can't find squat on them.
Also with that was one other, it's still mostly sealed, the back paper is like 90% gone and starting to peel away but there is an under plastic to the over plastic on it, a 1983 Gottlieb Q-Bert and Slick PVC figure. A loose one last popped up start of June on a $25 bin and went fast, a cut in half Slick only damaged one got obo'd on a $15 a couple weeks ago.
Anyone have any feel for this stuff like if them being destroyed cards but still sealed add any value or not? I think I'm not likely to sell them, but value wise if I ever had to, I'd like to know if it's worth keeping them in their stupidly sealed state or if the value is almost nil to the point it's better to let them breathe after 27 years.

99% of the goodwills I encounter are crapshoots about the only time you get a good deal is when something really oddballs comes in or an employee just says fuck it while pricing
.
Think the big problem around here is the employees buy up a lot of the stuff. It's gotten to the point where a few stores implemented policies to where employees couldn't buy stuff at a reduced price till it had sat in the store for an extended period of time. However given the shit pricing I figure they have jacked up the prices to ensure anything they want hangs around long enough for them to get a whack at it. Found out about that policy after a cashier got pissed when I bought an item they had been wanting once
.
Sad thing is the only reason they can keep up the shit pricing is because they have buses that come in from the local retirement homes about every other day and they con those poor bastards out of every penny they have on them

I had a similar experience at a Salvation Army store. I was sorting through the pile of keyboards. I noticed an Apple bluetooth keyboard at the very bottom. The employee who works in that corner of the Salv Army tried to "help" me by pointing out the "brand new" generic beige P/S2 keyboard in the torn cardboard box. He asked me twice if I really wanted to buy that "grimy" Apple bluetooth keyboard.Fragems wrote:99% of the goodwills I encounter are crapshoots about the only time you get a good deal is when something really oddballs comes in or an employee just says fuck it while pricing.

I took the Apple bluetooth keyboard to the cashier up front, rang it up for $2.50, and brought it home to clean up my old "grimy" keyboard. It pairs well with my old macbook.
Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
On sunday I came across Little Red Riding Hoods Zombie BBQ for DS at a shop for $20. I had heard of it before but know nothing about it other than it appears to be some kind of shooter (vertical) but it was booking around $50 sold on ebay so I figured whatever.
TIme isn't on my side much currently with lots of other things going on, I do want to dig into it, has anyone here ever owned it or given it a go and have some impressions on it? I know it was some fairly late release and kind of desirable like Solatorobo which I'd love to bump into like that too as I wanted it until it delayed into 3DS days and I forgot about it.
Also found Sonic 1 and Triple Trouble both on GG for $5/ea too this weekend which was very nice to see. Front end, back end sonic design big difference and it shows (and sounds) it well.

I downloaded it for my SD card ages ago. It's similar to Zombie Panic in Wonderland for Wiiware only not as good. Basically an on-rails tap-em up, shooter. I remember it had one very frustrating boss that I gave up on.Tanooki wrote:On sunday I came across Little Red Riding Hoods Zombie BBQ for DS at a shop for $20. I really liked the destructive simplicity of the Wiiware title but don't recall enjoying this one as much...although I tend to get easily passe about ROMS in general.
Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Same here, ROMS have no $ value so I tend to get pretty blah about them fast, very ADD in selecting or using them, and I somehow just don't enjoy or find value in them really as a stored selectable archive which is why I tend to not keep flash carts around.
I heard about that wiiware game, never seen or played that either.

I knew my Salvation Army was dead to me a few years ago when I saw an employee milling around the video games and put a white DVD case in his jacket pocket.samsonlonghair wrote:I had a similar experience at a Salvation Army store. C'mon brother, I know what I want to buy; thank you very much. He was as transparent as water. Clearly he wanted to buy that Apple bluetooth keyboard after it sat on the sales floor long enough. That's why he hid it on the bottom of the pile.

As I'm sure has been mentioned before, Goodwill seem to ship pretty much all their retro stuff to distribution sites and they go on ShopGoodwill.com. At least that's my impression. I found sealed PC games there like 5 years ago. Other than that, I couldn't tell you the last time I found anything.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Found Arc the Lad twilight of Spirits for $1 and it was complete and in mint condition. Not a valuable game or anything, but I've been trying to collect all the PS2 RPGS if I can find them for dirt cheap, and I did not own this one yet.
I also found Alien front online for Dreamcast for $2.99 and it was complete as well as Scooby Doo unmasked for $2.99 for gamecube and it was complete.

that's a really good story-driven RPG for PS2. highly underrated. skip End of Darkness, though, it's MMO-styled and doesn't really hold up.Soldier Blue wrote:Found Arc the Lad twilight of Spirits for $1 and it was complete and in mint condition.
