The monster changes ends up making many of the classic levels completely unplayable. Too many pinkies.

I can see that.

That said, the invisible pinkys are noticeably weaker, so taking them on isn't so bad. But those base ones, man, those guys are nasty.

I'm pretty sure the backside of the pinkies is a weak spot. Their whole front side has the rock-armor-like pieces, but that's not on the backside. Still, they indeed were powered up a bit here.

Anyone else only notice the runes until after you clear the area and take a look at the map to get back to exploring?

You mean the rune challenges? I actually ended up unlocking that Praetor ability to see all of the collectibles on the map pretty early on, so I tend to start each level by bringing up the map and locating everything.

Oops, I meant the power ups. Quad damage, haste, etc. 9 times out of 10 I'd notice them after clearing out a room. lol

Yup; I'd definitely notice them too late for them to do good.

Oh, not me. If it's a berserk, I make a beeline for it. Every time I hit a Gore Nest that has a berserk nearby, I kill that thing and then run for the powerup. Then I rip and tear until it wears off. There have been a couple of times where I've laid waste and still had to wait for the power to end. I like to rip and tear.

The plasma gun is much better for up in-your-face action than hanging back. The heat blast mod is also quite handy up close. It is my go-to for when I need to get knee-deep in a morass of minions or just spend a little face time with something bigger.

The heat blast mod is weird because you get very little feedback on it. It does a surprising amount of damage, it just never feels like it is.

It's less problematic to use when you have the infinite ammo rune running since you can charge up the blast easily. Without upgrades though, the refresh period is a killer.

Anyway, played a bit more. I'm now on the last level, having killed two out of three of those orb things. All weapons are now mastered, the Praetor suit is completely upgraded, and I have found all info logs. I'm still working on mastering that final rune, though I can probably get it pretty easily if I focus on it. I am currently missing only one collectible, and I have found all of the secret original levels. Currently I'm missing two combat challenges: one for the VEGA processing level(kill 3 or more enemies with 1 frag grenade), and one for the final level(kill two Barons of Hell with one shot). Beyond that, I believe I've found all or nearly all secrets, and I've gotten the max combat rating for all but the final level.

Yeah, so finishing the final level, mastering that final rune, and pulling off those two combat challenges are all I have left for this run. What does it take to unlock Ultra-Nightmare? I have to go back and beat the first level on that difficulty after this.
