Hi guys, just got the new 1060 but was shocked when I couldn't get the 6-pin connector to fit at all. Appears to be different sets?
Excuse the grubby hands and poor quality but it's the best pic I could get for now:

Fits fine in the motherboard so I'm guessing that's not the issue, but I'm not sure. Here's my parts:
Corsair CX Series, CX600, 600 Watt - has two PCI-E connectors that worked with my Radeon 7950:

I've only built two PCs, so I'm not an expert, but I don't see why it's not fitting. My guess would be that maybe you just had the bad luck to get one with a malformed female end. Some of the other guys here are way better versed in PC hardware than I am, so don't take what I say to heart too much, but I'm stumped.

The awful pic isn't helping. The shapes are slightly different.

My PSU has two PCI-E connectors that are the same and it's the bottom middle connector that does not match. The connectors I have are rounded but on the GPU it's a squared slot. I have no idea if this is the issue but it's my only guess. I tried probably way too hard to push it in, but they slide right into my Radeon 7950 easily.
The GPU only needs one power connection.
No idea if that helps more or what.

The shapes wouldn't be an issue, they should all fit. (Chamfered corners definitely fit in a square hole)
If you're having trouble getting it connected, my best guess would be the metal connectors in the plug are slightly misaligned. It happens a lot on various component connectors.
Force isn't the answer, but getting one of the threads started, then gently moving the connector to get the other connectors to catch around the pins (rather than being hit by the side or something) should sort it out.
I've had this issue with D connectors a lot, actually.
If you look closely at your picture, you can see some of the internal connectors aren't even oriented the same way. Move them all to one direction (left or right) and it'll probably go on very easily. I mean I can see that the top and bottom right plug connectors are tilting in opposite directions. That alone would be enough to make it feel impossible to plug in. Also, it looks like some of the pins on the PCI-E connection on the GPU have been pushed around. You'll want to make sure those are all relatively centered. The misaligned connector and you trying to push it in at all probably did that.
Just make sure they're all nice and lined up, and it should be fine.

Cron, it was indeed the pins on the GPU. 
So scary haha, and I just so happened to randomly have this weird tool around that almost seems like it was designed for pins (felt like the pins literally fit inside the thing, so I could wiggle them around a bit) so I got them all centered around. However it took two attempts and some trial and error. After messing around with it I tried one of my connectors and it worked, but then plugged up my AMD card again so I could boot up once again and uninstall drivers, AMD software, etc... and then the connectors did NOT want to fit in the GTX again. So I had to fiddle with it more. lmao, what a headache.
Thank goodness though, didn't want to deal with the hassle of returning it.
Strangely enough I think my Windows rating thing (I know it's probably nothing to take too seriously) went from a 7.9 I think, to a 7.5. Unless the 7.5 is the max... I had my Radeon for a few years so I probably didn't look for awhile there. Maybe the score was secretly downgrading since I didn't move to Windows 10.

It sounds like the previous card is orienting the connector pins on the power cable, and that doesn't necessarily align with the pins on the GTX.
I would strongly recommend you not mess around with that cable much more by swapping cards out. Bending the pins on the graphics card back shouldn't be done more than once or twice. You're bending the metal, it will weaken the integrity and those pins will break off. Just like a paperclip.
If you need to swap the power connector in the future think about different cables (hopefully you're using a Power Supply with modular cables! They're a life saver) or use a different plug if you don't need both.
Keep the GTX molex oriented to the GTX, right?

Yeah I don't think I plan on doing much more with this PC, so I won't be touching these cables for the foreseeable future. I was feeling that was the case myself, don't want to deal with it again or accidentally break something. Installed... and leaving it alone! lol
