Isn't it a second executable? Maybe it has a second config file for reasons that made sense to the devs at the time.

I'm not sure, but I think so. When you swap between modes, the game appears to restart itself, so that is certainly a possibility. It just seems like a weird oversight.

I don't know if you're stressing over 100%'ing levels before moving on, but with the mission select you can revisit all levels with ALL your equipment and weapons, basically NG+ styled level select action. Pretty cool. I got the platinum on the PS4 and it wasn't that hard. I did not find all the classic Doom maps though.

Made it through Neptune's Bounty on Bioshock. I seriously thought limited ammo was going to be a problem (like earlier Shock titles) but with the vending machines and my obsession with looking around objects for stuff it's not a problem. I'm managing those Big Daddies somewhat all right too. Proximity mines work well. I wanted an immersive FPS and this does NOT disappoint.

Yeah once you upgrade some weapons, Big Daddy's aren't that tough. You just do have to utilize your full arsenal and plasmids.

I'm a good chunk into Deus Ex Human Revolution again. Third time I believe. Now playing the Director's Cut on PC. I still really miss the higher contrast gold tint that the original version has, which cannot even be bought off Steam thesedays, but I own it so it's still in my library. Might revisit that version again sometime.

Loving some of the new footage I've seen from Mankind Divided. I hope they laid off the hacking crap though, that is so tiresome and too abundant in HR. I can't NOT do it because you get so much exp/money from it, but yeah. It looks like the same mini game is in MD... but hopefully it's faster or there's better augs to get through it easier.

I'm hoping it comes closer to the original Deus Ex with the story, which seems like it could be heading that direction. Augmented people are no longer a commodity and maybe government only. I wonder if we'll see Bob Page or other key characters take up a bigger role now. I want it to dip into the pulpier science fiction and go all in with the AI's and Illuminati like the original did. Crossing my fingers.

I still don't like Jensen's voice too much. You can tell it's SUPER forced and is so hilariously out of place while talking to anyone else in the game. I guess I'll just pretend his vocal chords got completely messed up from the accident so that's the excuse. I still like Jensen though. He's no JC, but better than Alex. I hope Sarif, Pritchard, and Malik come back. Hopefully it's a good bridge between the games, builds upon the good stuff HR did and setup, and dives into the original.

Finished up my replay of Human Revolution. Pumped for Mankind Divided now.

I plan to replay Deus Ex for the 20th time after Mankind Divided. Funny timing, or perfect?

Turns out this GMDX mod looks incredible too, so I think this is how I'll play it again:

Played a bit more DOOM over the weekend. In fact, I'm on Mission 12 of 13(at least that is how I figure it based on the collectibles), the Vega processing facility. I've also spent a chunk of time hunting down all of the secrets. I have all runes(and have mastered all but the final one), I have all weapon mods and have mastered most of those(save for the gauss rifle where I have to headshot one Hell Knight to master it completely and the plasma rifle which needs a lot of work to finish), and I have all of the argent pieces for the suit and need one more chip for it to max it out. I've done all of the combat challenges save one, which is admittedly one of the challenges for level 12, so I may still get the opportunity. And I have maxed out combat ratings in all of the previous levels.

Weapon-wise, I have definitely figured out my preferences:

The super shotgun is my baby. It's not great against everything all the time, but it's a hoss that shreds the small stuff and stuns the big long enough to swap to a better weapon for taking down that which needs to be taken down.

The combat shotgun doesn't see much use anymore since I got the double-barrel, though I definitely favor the explosive shot for it. The three round burst is ok, but it doesn't impress.

I like both mods for the heavy assault rifle, though I tend to favor the missiles and only use the scope mod when I'm far off and can take some time to pick things off.

When I first got the chain gun, I used the barrel rotation mod. Then I unlocked the turret and tried it. I haven't used the barrel rotation mod since. Then I got the rune that gives me infinite ammo if I have a certain amount of armor. I've cleared whole levels only using the turret mode a couple of times. This thing is a beast and probably my second favorite after supes shotty.

The rocket launcher is fun, even though I'm just as likely to hurt myself as anything else. I prefer the homing rockets more than the remote detonation, since that requires I pay more attention so I can detonate when I need. Nah, I'd much rather fire and forget.

The pistol isn't bad, though I don't use it much unless I have to take down the most basic critters and don't want to waste ammo. It is what it is.

While I wasn't a big fan of the gauss cannon at first, maxing out siege mode has changed that opinion. Now I bring it out when I want something to die quickly. I've gotten adept at double-jumping, entering siege mode, and blasting something as soon as I hit the ground so I can get away. The scope is less useful for my play style, as the game doesn't usually spawn big stuff in such a way that it's not immediately coming for me.

And then there is the plasma rifle, or as I call it, Binky. I'm just not a fan. I find leading with it is a pain for some reason, and I don't care for either of its weapon mods. I just don't use it much.

Our preferences align quite a bit there, though I have to admit I actually think I favored the normal shotgun in this one because it was still very viable, and the grenade launcher was just too good. I tend to love the plasma rifle in all the other games, but I practically never used it in this one. I had the same reaction to the gauss cannon, wasn't sure about it at first... then you realize upgraded with siege mode can one shot Mancubus' and just about anything in sight. It's practically just as good as the BFG when used efficiently. The machine gun with the missiles was my Revenant / Summoner killer. The chain gun was hilarious as it takes up half the screen, definitely used it a lot when things got chaotic, tears throw demons like butter.

I didn't play any Bioshock this weekend, but I'm through Arcadia and onto the Farmer's Market. I really didn't think Arcadia was "Rapture's Amusement Center", it was just a bunch of gardens!" But the game continues to get better.

Yeah, I tend to favor the rocket launcher for summoners just because I got used to using it while mastering the homing missile, and with that rune that gives you infinite ammo when your armor is at certain levels, I can see the gauss cannon replacing the BFG in some instances. I love to pull it out and pop Barons of Hell unexpectedly in the face.

As far as the enemies are concerned, I like the designs about nearly all of them, but the power shifts and such between them are surprising. The number of Revenants the game throws at you surprised me; they seem more common than soldiers after the halfway points. The Mancubus feels about right, and Hell Knights come across as weaker than I was expecting. To offset this, the Pinky has become a ridiculous bullet sponge. In fact I'd say I dread the Pinky more than just about any enemy, even the Barons, because I cannot use my preferred jumping tactics to get away from them. Apparently they ram my feet pretty hard. But the most annoying enemy for me by far is the soldier with a shield.
