I will have atleast one 4:3 CRT TV with me aslong as I can. But as soon as these drop within logical price range (sub $1000) and if I can get one 40+ inch one with a VGA port, Ill be in line. PC will be hooked up through HDMI, but the Dreamcast needs that VGA...

I'll be rocking my lcos rear projection until it craps out. If I buy a house before then, the JVC is going into my game room, and a Plasma/LCD ill be going into the living room. OLED will be too expensive for me for some time.

Yeah, things with tech now always seem to be "here is the next big thing" before the current thing is even perfected yet. CRT's are great, and I wishmore companies still made them, CRT's are big & Bulky, but a quality CRT will last you a LOOOOONNNG time, before I moved out of my parents house 4 years ago, I was using a 32" faux wood sided CRT from the late 80's and it was still great, and I hear the thing is still going strong today. Plus what else are you going to plug your Genesis into? lol

Hey does anyone else remember that gaming TV they came out with in the mid 90's, I think it was called GXTV or something, it had the two speakers that covered the screen, and they were on hinges and would open up, I remeber loving it, but wishing it was larger then it was (if I remeber correctly I think it was 17 or 21 inches)

Eventually yes, but it will be probably another 3-5 years before I buy a new TV and I doubt that the prices will be competitive by then, so I may just get another LCD then.

LCD's and Plasmas are getting cheap now, I can only imagine what they will be in 3-5 years.

I wont buy a new tv until i can get better quality than a CRT for color and old games. Anything that isnt 16:9 on the Dreamcast looks worse than the Genesis or SNES on the LCD, it annoys me just as much the fact that even on full mode it isnt FULL SCREEN. Instead ive got 2 half inch black bars as if trying to save it from distortion. Although the Full feature is actually quite good in hiding the distortion on my TV. Still, once I find a good CRT thats 16:9 and is HD, Im going to pick it up.

Good luck finding one man it took me 8 months to find a brand new one & when I did it was ironcally where I had said to myself wouldn't have one buy.com

Also like I said in my post before global CRT production has ceased (since Nov. 2007) so if you're looking for a new set it's going to be hard to find one that hasn't been remanufactured etc...

Yeah, I think the last Widescreen CRT's were made by Samsung (slimfit) and I believe a 34" Sony CRT. I also think I remember seeing a RCA or JVC model as well. LCD color quality is getting much better, but old game systems will still look subpar on them, unless running through Virtual Console on Wii, as from what I hear they look very good on HD LCD's. I'm still rocking a 32" JVC non widescreen, non HDTV, I will upgrade within the next 12 months as prices on HD TV's are becoming very competitive.

I had my eye on the 34" Sony Widescreen CRT and at one point seen it on clerance for $600 and by the time I went back to Sears it was long gone....lol....a friendof mine picked it up from Best Buy for $1000 awhile back, and he lives on the 5th floor of a 7 story walkup building (no elevators) so he felt obligated to give the delivery guys $100 as a tip for carrying it up the stairs without dropping it..that is one big heavy TV. Best thing about it, if someone ever breaks into his Apartment, his HDTV is not going to be carried out under one arm....LOL

Yeah my dream tv was the samsung slimfit, but when I couldn't find it I decided to settle for what I could get new in the box, which was the JVC widescreen mentioned above. Although I think I came out lucky after seeing both sets side by side, and hearing about the horrendous geometry problems on the slimfits after a few months of use. Plus the JVC has better color depth and six inputs (two HDMI, two component which can double as av/s-video, and two regular av inputs with s-video as well.

are you sure they stopped making CRT's?
Isn't it too early to do so?

Completely, there were only two companies left making new CRT's in 2007, and now they simply refurbish old ones.

The only place that still has them new is Wal-Mart but it's just old stock from the 07-08 season and the biggest size they have is 20''

Trust me man Ispent months calling every store, dealer, catalog, distribution center, & repair shop in the greater North Carolina area and they all said the same thing. "CRT's are no longer in production", and/or "We're goinng to (or are) getting out of repairing any and all CRT based sets."

So yeah I'm definitely sure.
