Polygon's got an 8 minute playthrough of the Comicon demo complete with commentators who know Sonic games (including one who recognized a Sonic Spinball sound effect).

That guy playing is terrible, and saying they know sonic is pretty funny because they didnt recognize that green hill zone has mashed up two existing acts. They are playing through a portion that starts out as act 1 and transitions into act 2 and are saying they dont notice any differences. This would be like not noticing if mario 1-1 became an entirely different level.

Haha yeah, I did laugh when they said Green Hill Zone was identical.

Plus there are elements of Emerald Hill zone from Sonic 2 in there.

C'mon guys, does the word "expert" mean nothing?

I'm looking forward to this. I think the ceiling for this game is pretty low, but the likelihood that it will be a generally good game is very high.

I'm a bit miffed why they're doing a mashup of old levels and new ones. A brand new traditional Sonic game simply titled Sonic The Hedgehog 4 would've been nice. Ultimately I guess I don't mind though. It'll be a nice mix of a brand new experience and seeing an old friend.

Is there any word on the cost? I am thinking this will be a digital download on the more expensive side. $19.99?

PS: I still find it odd that they can't simply make a Sonic Adventure game with all the boring bits cut out. That would be a modern, full-priced Sonic game to me and would be successful.

They tried that, it didn't work.

God. I've been out of the game too long. I forgot about that. 'Course I can't really complain. I didn't buy it for whatever reason.

Episode 1 wasn't that bad, but a lot of people had problems with the physics IIRC. My main problem with it was that it didn't capture the visuals of the Genesis games. It was like a 2D game with the look of Sonic Adventure. Episode 2 was a slight improvement. They were both decently fun to play, you just can't go in expecting them to be just like the Genesis games. Still, worth picking up if you're into 2D platformers.

Except that they are named in such a way as to indicate direct similarity to the genesis games.

Which is why they were such a disappointment.
