Oh, yeah, I know the installs are huge. I'm just saying that 32GB isn't "small" for a cart, or even in comparison to Blu-Ray media. I've got a few games on my PS4 that are sucking up over 60GB.
I suspect that we'll be looking at some SD card storage as well, and that just keeps getting cheaper. By the time it's out, I suspect we'll be buying 128GB cards for like $20.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I too suspect the NX will be using some type of internal flash storage. Perhaps it will support SD card expansion as well.isiolia wrote:What'd be interesting to see is working an m.2 SSD in or something though.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
looks like they are doubling (tripling?) down on the "fuck modern graphics" strategy:
http://www.polygon.com/2016/7/26/122881 ... do-s-nx-beUnfortunately, for fans looking for a new Nintendo console that’s "competitive" with the presentation capabilities of the PS4 or Xbox One, there’s not much to be excited for here. The Tegra X1 debuted in March 2015 with promises of PS3/Xbox 360 equivalent graphics, systems which were ten and nine years old at that time, respectively, and even then, this promise proved somewhat unsubstantiated.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Yup that isn't much of a surprise and I figured as much as they know they can't compete with the other two, that's why I kept saying like the shield, like a micro console. If they stick with the current nvidia 900 based tegra x1 setup you can expect what that console Nvidia does or a little bit nicer. Now if it used the newer August announcement to come of the 1060-1080 based chip which is notably beefier, faster, and runs cooler it'll get a better boost yet. Would it be PS4 level, nope, but given what they're after it really doesn't need to be nor should it. Nintendo is rejecting the modern market yet again, the modern console one, they seem to be tipping towards a very capable mobile/microconsole level device.
But as it is, it's all mostly guess work other than the few knowns and semi-knowns so it is fun to speculate. I'm more inclined to trust them on this since it is a portable device, and had it been a straight up console definitely not.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
In a lot of ways, it makes sense. It's not like Sony is going to put out another handheld after Vita, and I doubt Microsoft is looking to jump in, either. I think this fills a nice niche of the market. There's got to be some other revelation that drops, though, because this alone isn't going to cause ripples in the casual market.

Maybe it'll have something to do with this:Sarge wrote:There's got to be some other revelation that drops, though, because this alone isn't going to cause ripples in the casual market.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I'm kinda torn on the issue.
Part of me is finding myself gravitating more and more to handheld gaming. Even at home, sat on the couch, I just find it more convenient. I've also found myself thinking it's sad that the Vita is no longer supported by Sony (although, yes, the niche games still being released are cool) and that there will not be a successor. The 3DS is getting old now and the games are drying up. I don't want handheld gaming, "real" handheld gaming, to die. So a super powerful new handheld from Nintendo would be awesome, in my opinion. Playing the new Zelda on a handheld, the new Mario on a handheld and other great games that are usually on a home console, would be great.
The other part of me is kinda 'meh' on it. So basically, it won't be anymore powerful than the Wii U? It won't even be on a par with the 3/4 year old (by time of release) PS4 and XBox One? From a home console perspective; that is disappointing. But then it is a hybrid handheld/home console. But you know, tablets and phones etc. have had the capability to hook up to TVs and allow use of external controllers for years... How revolutionary is that really?

Re: NX Predictions Thread
From what I've been hearing from Digital Foundry, it will be noticeably more powerful than the Wii U but not quite on the level of the PS4 and Xbox One. I mean, Nintendo is pretty well known for keeping a lid on spec details, so we won't really know much until they want us to, but while I'm extremely disappointed by the rumored power of the system, I don't think it's quite as bad as some people (myself included) have made it out to be in the past.
That said, however, I will continue to hope up until Nintendo inevitably shoots me down that this is the 3DS's replacement and they'll have some kind of a separate unit for home use (maybe some kind of turbo charger or whatever that you plug the handheld unit into that gives it a big boost in power, idk).

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Well, as Exhuminator posted, they could still be going with the docking station with a co-processor. Will be interesting to see how that all works, but one has to think if they go that route, it's to get home resolutions up, and the portable will be lower than 1080p. This, of course, is not an issue; the Vita looks great, and it's only 960x544.
Another thing I always forget: PC devs have been doing stuff with different quality settings for years: anti-aliasing, lighting, reduced model complexity, the whole nine yards. Nintendo may be going that route still with a more capable home system, and reducing the capability of the portable segment of the platform. We shall see!

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Yeah, since writing that post, I read another article (although, obviously, it's all speculation and rumours at this stage) that said it will be more powerful than the Wii U but just not on the same level as the PS4. That's better, at least. I wouldn't complain if it is indeed a handheld device.
Interesting theories though, in regards to docking station and co-processors.
I am certainly intrigued.
