Jesus Christ, this guy is a fucking disaster.
What say you, Trump supporters? Cool with this? We're good with encouraging international cyber-security breaches now? No problems with Russia hacking into our State Department?

I think it's silly to take that statement as anything more than an attempt at humor. After all, it seems like from all the reports that supposedly Russia has all our stuff anyway; joking that they release some dirt on those missing Hillary emails seems like a good one to make.
Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
I dunno, nothing about the press conference seemed jokey. There's no "being taken out of context" here. This was a presidential nominee of a major party telling Russia to "go for it" in accessing and releasing State Department emails (which are not the same as the DNC emails, of course). Whether they are already doing this or not is moot, that a potential future president is ostensibly giving them a pass and asking them to do more is simply unconscionable. And he's claiming to be strong on National Security and International Relations? He's a pathetic joke of a candidate and a sad excuse for a human.Sarge wrote:I think it's silly to take that statement as anything more than an attempt at humor. He's probably the kind of crook candidate that would arrogantly bypass normal government security regulations, to use a private email server for classified communications, and then refuse to give up 31,000 of those unsanctioned emails, even when the FBI told him to.
I bet he's that sad of an excuse for a human being.

How about we all agree that we'd all be best served with President Ack and move on from the pissing contest I see coming.

Pretty much every Sec'y of State of the modern era has done this. Perhaps it is against regulations, but it has also taken place for a long time without anyone batting an eye:Exhuminator wrote:He's probably the kind of crook candidate that would arrogantly bypass normal government security regulations, to use a private email server for classified communications

Clinton acted irresponsibly and has been rightfully chastised for it, and there's still quibbling going on over what counts as "work-related" email that she may still have and she has agreed to hand over anything else asked for.and then refuse to give up 31,000 of those unsanctioned emails, even when the FBI told him to.
Besides, my larger point is not that Hillary is a good candidate or that she has done no wrong, but that a nominee for president is asking a foreign government to intervene in a federal investigation by hacking the State Department. Whatever Hillary's missteps might be in handling her email, that's just an insane thing to do!

"Clinton said, "I have now put out all of my emails."dsheinem wrote:she has agreed to hand over anything else asked for
In reality, only about half of the emails sent or received by Clinton on her private email server have been released.
Clinton’s comments focus on emails that she and her staff deemed work-related.
Clinton says the half that aren’t available were personal and private. The problem is, it was Clinton and her staff who made that determination. Those emails -- more than 30,000 -- haven’t been available for public review, and it’s not entirely clear they can be retrieved.
She and her staff deleted more than 31,000 without any government review in December 2014 on the basis that they were personal correspondence and had nothing to do with her government job.
The remaining 30,940 were turned over to the State Department, in paper form, for review and archiving."

So the last legit thing I read about this was, she had handed over some emails, hand picked and printed out, but over 30,000 emails had been redacted. When the government asked for the unaccounted emails, they were refused and the excuse was "those were personal emails".
Now if you've seen any developments showcasing the 30,000+ missing "personal" emails have been recovered and provided, please provide that source. Because if that's the case, Trump asking Russia to find them doesn't make any sense.
If the State Department already had these missing 30,000+ emails, why would Trump be asking Russia to help find them? It sounded like Trump was asking Russia to find and hack into Hilary's nefarious email server and release them.dsheinem wrote:a nominee for president is asking a foreign government to intervene in a federal investigation by hacking the State Department

Trump didn't ask hackers to get those emails. There are hackers in the US and in other friendly nations. He asked RUSSIAN hackers to do it, foreign nationals with whom the US does not necessarily have a friendly relationship. He called for an adversarial nation to spy on the US. Trump wants this to be about the emails, but what he did was effectively sanction hacking and electronic spying by an adversarial nation. Regardless of how you feel about Clinton, this should raise your hackles. Do not let yourself fall victim to some misplaced equation involved ends justifying means. There is NO appropriate scenario in which a presidential candidate in the US is justified in calling for a non-allied foreign power to infiltrate US private OR public systems.Exhuminator wrote: If the State Department already had these missing 30,000+ emails, why would Trump be asking Russia to help find them? Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
Right, he made an appeal to Russia. Because the current story circulating is that Russian hackers are in cahoots with Trump to embarrass the Democratic Party with the leaked DNC emails. Ergo, Trump effectively says, "Hey, guys, if you're so good at finding emails like this, maybe you can find the ones Hillary lost!" I would say I'm flabbergasted that folks are taking a throwaway line seriously, but I lost that ability long ago and even before this election cycle. You combat absurdity with absurdity, and some of the angles out there on the DNC leak are getting pretty ridiculous.
