Meh looks like a Federation face stuck onto the butt of a D7 klingon cruiser. Wonder what's up with that stuff. Music helps paint that picture as well too. Kind of curious what year this flys as the ship look more Kirk era than Picard if not maybe earlier a little.

There was a rumor going around a few months ago that it would be between Kirk's era and Picard's era. Also in that rumor it was stated that the show would be an anthology series. Again only rumors though

As I said earlier they were obviously looking at this:

That image looks close, interesting, what is it from?

And those rumors are just that, could be interesting if true. They're realizing people care more for fists/action Trek with lighter diplomacy of the old series vs the 90s/00 with more brains first. Duh and/or action = more $.

The internet seems to be driven into nerd rage by this trailer. I kind of dig it, really. This reminds me of the 1980s series of Trek films.

Is that from Star Trek Phase Two?

Yes, it's one of Ralph McQuarrie's (best known for most of Star Wars' technical designs) concept paintings for the Phase II Enterprise which they tossed out early during the production of The Motion Picture. That's why it's far more angular than what we usually see from Federation ships. It was an odd choice to go back to.

I just got back from seeing Beyond. While I'm still not a fan of the alternate universe it was a really fun movie and they got the look, feel and characters down really well this time. I finally actually found myself believing Chris Pine as Kirk. The references were in service to continuity and not just random vomit like Into Darkness. Also Yorktown was one of the coolest starbases ever.

I'd actually recommend seeing it. It's such a major difference having people who actually care about Star Trek write these films.

I've seen a few positive reviews around the forums and it has me excited to see it now.

I do agree that the angular design is an odd choice. The design of the ship is leading me to believe the rumor about it being between the two series.

I read something about there being a mention of the NCC Discovery in an early TNG episode. As a casual fan of Star Trek, I'm excited about a new TV show in this universe! About time.

I checked Memory Alpha, but I don't see what you're describing.
