I've only played the sequel, but based on that experience none of your complaints sound out of place to me.
Mediocre Zelda clone with some issues is actually right in line with my expectations - but at $20 on a relatively game-starved console where I already own the sequel, that is ok in my books.
If Sarge says the original is a bit better than the sequel, that's also good news to me. I liked the handful of hours I put into the sequel, despite getting interrupted and not restarting since.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I, personally, LOVED both Darksiders games, but I agree with Sarge that the original is much better than the sequel. Darksiders II was just good IMO; the first Darksiders really knocked it out of the park as a dark Zelda clone. They managed to make it edgy without being 2edgy4u like Shadow the Edgehog, and I think no small part of that was grounding the basis for the plot in Judeo-Christian mythology while taking enough artistic liberties to make the story feel fresh and engaging.
I'll definitely be picking it up for Wii U even though I have it on 360, and I look forward to playing through it again on (what is in my completely biased opinion) the better console.

You two are like the first I've ever heard saying the first is better than the second. Not that I actively seek out much Darksiders info though, lol. I definitely have no interest in playing either of them at this point but if you guys dig them, that's what matters.

My college roommate also thinks the first is better, but he's the only other person I know who's played bothXeogred wrote:You two are like the first I've ever heard saying the first is better than the second. Surprising. Most folks I know prefer the first game. (Also, on Game Rankings, the first game is just slightly above the second, at least on 360.
But then there's the PS3/Wii U versions slightly higher than that. Who to believe? Dunno.)
I just know that most anything competently Zelda-tinged is going to rate higher for me than God of War-meets-Prince of Persia-meets-Diablo. And the second game would have been better without the annoying Diablo elements.

NICE - esp the bonus content for just the physical versions.
How is SteamWorld Heist? I think I have Dig on multiple systems from humble bundles.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Wow if I still had a wii u I'd buy both those discs in a heartbeat. Excellent content there being unbound from a lousy lease into physical ownership. Nice to see Nintendo catching on to what Sony has been doing on the PS3/4/Vita a bit.

That packaging is just utterly terrible. What is it with game companies doing rereleases (greatest hits) or releases like this that makes them use terrible packaging design?

I honestly didn't know there was another SteamWorld. I have the IndieBox version of Dig. I'll keep an eye out for these Wii U physical games, they look amazing.
