Nice. If you've never played this, you are in for an awesome time. If nothing else, you should at least enjoy the amazing OST.

Of the Quintet trilogy, Soul Blazer is my favorite. I need to go back and play through this one again. The last time I completely played through it was in 1998, it's been too long!

Soul Blazer is so rad. I really wish it had zero backtracking though.

I like Soul Blazer a lot. It's a simple, unpretentious action-RPG.

Yeah, I look forward to getting my hands on it. I'm curious how it will compare to Illusion of Gaia for me.

The three "Heaven and Earth" game are completely different.

Spoiler in case you don't want to know.
Soul Blazer - fast-paced, non-stop-action, hack and slash, bit of a Gauntlet vibe with enemies spawning from portals, linear
Illusion of Gaia - Zelda-ish with no real experience system, linear
Terranigma - bona fide action-RPG, ability to level grind, huge world with much exploration, town-building

Yeah I've noticed I don't seem to be the only one around here who loved Soul Blazer. Although I think Terranigma has better high points and is an amazing experience, albeit a bit exhausting and the fetch quest/town building thing really slows things down, if you asked me what Quintet game I could easily replay many times over it'd be Soul Blazer. So... in ways maybe it is my favorite of them all, also above Actraiser, and EVO, etc.

I'd say Soul Blazer is like Secret of Mana in that there is just too much to love about its simplicity and the few things it needs to do it does well.

Some games are like that. Breezy, fun, lightning-quick affairs that are infinitely revisitable. It's why I still play a lot of NES games, it doesn't take a massive time investment and many of them hold up over the years.

Actually, that's probably part of Soul Blazer's appeal. I could see that being on an 8-bit system pretty easily.

Yeah it was definitely early SNES haha.

Expect a lot of Actraiser sounds and such too and vice versa. That just made me love it even more. lol

Funny story about Actraiser, I played and beat that with my dad a little bit before I could even read. So he read the game to me as we somehow managed to beat it (I never forgot what the final boss looked like haha). The irony here is that back in the day my dad was ultra religious, and you guys know how much Quintet loves their religious overtones. So it's kind of shocking to me to think back that he somehow just went with it and never freaked out over it, maybe he didn't care. At the same time, him and a friend along with myself were all really into Super Ghoul's & Ghosts as well, which you could argue was a bit "demonic" in many ways haha.

I had a friend with a SNES who routinely got SNES games when they debuted. I remember him getting Actraiser right when it released. I came over to his house and he let me play it for as long as I wanted. I beat that game in a single night. I was a machine back then.

Lemme guess, these days you waste your time "having a life" and "spending time with friends and family".
