Those of you who value unique gaming concepts might want to check out a recent GOG addition:

VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action

"VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action is a booze em' up about waifus, technology, and post-dystopia life. In this world, corporations reign supreme, all human life is infected with nanomachines designed to oppress them, and the terrifying White Knights ensure that everyone obeys the laws. But, this is not about those people. You are a bartender at VA-11 HALL-A, affectionately nicknamed "Valhalla." Although it is just a small bar downtown, it attracts the most fascinating people this side of dystopia. Keep your clients lubricated and you will be made privy to the most interesting stories."

"Learn about daily life in the cyberpunk dystopia of Glitch City.

A branching storyline where your decisions do not depend on traditional choices, but through the drinks you prepare.

Visuals inspired by old Japanese adventure games for the PC-98, with a modern touch for an otherworldly experience.

Get to know your clients, their tastes, and prepare the drink that will change their lives."

Yeah, I remember when that popped up, and I immediately figured Bone would be into it.

Turns out all this time I've been doing 1-10 reviews, I've been doing so under the 80s/90s scale. Guess I'll start having to say 8/10 when I mean "average" instead of 5/10.

Ack's review scale: play the damn game and talk about the experience. Forget what numbers look like.

Oh I like reading (and writing) reviews just fine. But I also enjoy seeing a number to go along with it. What I don't like though, is a grading scale that is completely out of proportion.

Might depend on which publications you look at. I know some, such as Ars Technica and Kotaku, deliberately moved away from assigning scores to games because of that issue. Others have made a point to state that they're using the full scale.

It's certainly a problem with things like Metacritic though, even if only due to public perception.

this is the "problem" as I see it. I don't necessarily think that reviewers use that so-called modern scale. I think that folks who look at JUST the score and skip the review (as well as publishers) tend to just say "oh, it's under 80. That's bad."
