My friend at Tiger Lab Vinyl gave me a copy of Devilman and Wicked City. I haven't listened to Devilman yet (I plan to tonight) but I listened to Wicked City last night.

Wicked City was fucking awesome! Most of it sounds like a video game soundtrack. A lot of it reminded me of Castlevania music, especially Symphony of the Night. A lot of it reminded me of 16-bit RPG music. One track in particular reminded me of a track from Super Mario RPG. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're into that sort of thing.

Since I love ridiculous 80s anime, I MIGHT need those in my collection at some point.

My latest vinyl acquisition is The Avalanches new album, Wildflower. Their first album, Since I Left You, had a major impact on my life; it was unlike anything I heard previously and flowed so well as an album. I've literally been waiting for a follow-up since high school, so when Wildflower was announced I got a little carried away...
I preordered a version from Newbury Comics with exclusive art (limited to 1,000 - sold out during preorders).
I joined Vinyl Me Now to preorder THEIR exclusive version with red vinyl (limited to 2,000 - sold out within 24 hours of preorders going live).
I also preordered it from an indie record store a little over an hour away to get an exclusive 7" single of their song Frankie Sinatra - the only way to get the extended mix on physical media.

All of those exclusives are going for QUITE a bit more than I paid for them on eBay but I REALLY like the album so I don't want to sell them. But at the same time, I don't need three copies... IDK, maybe I'll find a friend who will be happy for the regular vinyl version.

I picked up a couple new records over the weekend. Guitar Center has been carrying new vinyl for a while now, so I always check out the selection anytime I'm there. This time I got:

My brother has a couple of their albums on CD, so I've heard them before. I saw this album in Guitar Center before, but I didn't know if I should get it, not knowing if it was one of the albums I've heard or not. This time I was with my brother, so I was able to ask him. It was kinda pricey at $28, but it's a double album. When I got it home and opened it up, to my surprise, there was a CD version of the album inside! They should have put a sticker on there indicating that, it would have made my decision easier.

I was never a big fan of Green Day, but in more recent years I've been starting to dig the radio hits more and more. What really made me pick this one up though is the front cover artwork. I've only ever seen it on CD. It looks awesome nice and big on vinyl.

I love both those Albums, Ziggy.

When you play Dookie, listen real closely to the base and drums during the transition from track 6 "Pulling teeth" to track 7 "Basket Case". That musical transition between songs always blew my mind.

Dookie and Insomniac are the only Green Day albums I really enjoy and both fucking slay.

Fun fact: Dookie was my first cassette (not including hand-me-downs from the parents) and Insomniac was my first CD. Don't have any of that on vinyl though!

Early-mid 90s pop-punk rules.

For some reason, I didn't post these pickups I got over the summer...

(Led Zeppelin - In through the Outdoor) Someone mentioned this some time ago in this thread. When this album was released, you got one of 4 different covers. But you didn't know which one you were getting because the album was in a brown paper bag. My Mom has this album on vinyl, still with the brown bag, she told me the story and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I "borrowed" (stole) it from her. So when I found this album in Guitar Center, a re-release, with the brown paper bag and all, I had to get my own. I gave my Mom's back to her. I haven't opened mine yet, so I don't know which version of the cover I have.

I thought this was the coolest thing when I found it in a local record shop. It's all cover songs. I love the artwork. The label is made to look like a supermarket price tag, and the back cover has a store receipt for the track listing. There was one copy in the store, I was still thinking about it and noticed that my friend was looking at it. We were both considering it, but both on the fence. So it turned into a "who gets to buy it" fight lol. He conceded to let me buy it on the premise that I would digitize it and give him a copy on CD.

Well, I enjoyed listening through Dookie. More than I thought I would. Maybe I'll pick up Insomniac.

I've only ever heard Basket Case on the radio, so when I was playing the album I was like "Oh, that song transitions into this one! I never knew that!" Being vinyl, you can't rewind easy. I didn't realize what was going on, since record players don't display what track they're on. I'll be sure to pay attention to it next time I have it on though.

So I decided to get a few more records off Amazon last night. I went on a kind of 90's buying spree.

Image

I enjoyed listening through Dookie, so I'm curious about this one now. Like Dookie, I've only ever heard the radio hits.

I have this album on CD, and I use to listen to it a lot when I was in middle school and junior high. Aside from the hits on the radio, I haven't listened to this album probably since high school. I thought it would be fun to listen through it again.

Image

The only Foo Fighters album that I own physically is that Medium Rare cover album I posted above. I figured a greatest hits album is a good place to start.

Image

Like Green Day, Nirvana was another band that I was too cool to listen to. EVERYONE in high school listened to Green Day and Nirvana, and I just have to be a contrarian. I own this album on CD, though I haven't listened to it since high school, I remember it being pretty good.
