I'm not saying it's right, but you're saying that conservatives in general made it up, when somewhere like Snopes says that is unknown where it actually originated from. It's too blanket a statement as originally worded. You could probably have said that "some conservative outlets ran with it and continue to do so", however.
And again, I see no shortage of this on the left, either. Let's face it, a lot of people get caught up in narrative, and will use things, even if disproven, as part of their body of evidence. It sucks.
On the bigger subject: The Turkey thing is a bit scary. I'm gathering that the military is unhappy with the current president, who apparently has been schmoozing quite a bit with ISIS / Islamist factions, correct?

Erdogan has been moving toward Islamic culture and away from secularism, but I don't think he has any love for ISIS. They are a threat to his borders. And ISIS has been almost as active as the PKK when it comes to attacks inside Turkey. That said, Erdogan has also been cracking down on criticism of his government and curtailing many freedoms within Turkey. The military probably has an easier time operating with a more secular society.Sarge wrote:On the bigger subject: The Turkey thing is a bit scary. This is perhaps a little too conspiratory a theory to have any truth to it, but I wonder if there's any chance this was staged to help Erdogan secure his power more tightly... Seems of the military wanted a coup it would have been a lot more effective than what appears to be happening now.
Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
Yes, a tiny fraction of the military was involved. The loss of life has me doubting it was staged, but that doesn't mean it could not have been encouraged through back channels, of which the main coup plotters were unaware. We won't know for a while, if ever.marurun wrote:Erdogan has been moving toward Islamic culture and away from secularism, but I don't think he has any love for ISIS. They are a threat to his borders. It's always best to remove any "bad" leader by the people themselves. Army coups shouldn't be a thing.o.pwuaioc wrote:So the dictator lives, and now they'll see the tyrant. RIP free, secular Turkey.Pulsar_t wrote:The dude didn't abide, looks like he's staying. Coups d'état are so passé.

Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
Turkey actually has a pretty good history of it. One of the few countries in which the military seems to feel it has an obligation to secularism and to fight "democracy gone awry". But this failure will hurt that history.Pulsar_t wrote:It's always best to remove any "bad" leader by the people themselves. This is hysterical. I did another day or rage search to see if anybody bothered to own up to the bullshit. No such luck. But I did manage to find a conservative website that actually reported on the hoax nature of it. And then I read the comments.

I had a day of rage yesterday. It involved rebagging all my garbage (one bag I had to redo 3 times) some serious time with the shop vac, and lots of hand washing. Does that count?

You should call in to Hannity for an interview. Sounds like you faced the brunt of it.marurun wrote:I had a day of rage yesterday. It involved rebagging all my garbage (one bag I had to redo 3 times) some serious time with the shop vac, and lots of hand washing. Does that count?

Given the stuff that's going down right now in the country, it actually makes a lot of sense. Bad times ahead for Turkey and the rest of the Middle East...marurun wrote:This is perhaps a little too conspiratory a theory to have any truth to it, but I wonder if there's any chance this was staged to help Erdogan secure his power more tightly...
