Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen's Gravestone | 2014 | 2eps | 7/10

After finishing up Fujiko Mine, I decided to go ahead and watch this, since much of the production staff remained the same. This one's about Jigen trying to survive a hitman hired to kill him, due to some political nonsense he witnessed. Once again the art and animation is awesome, and once again the ending is way too deus ex machina for me. But what saved the whole plot for myself, is the super awesome main villain. That guy rocks and deserves his own series.

I'm probably going to watch the original Birdy the Mighty next. I've never seen it because I don't know.

Not in the ones I read. There's a neat anthology you can get (buy or borrow from a library) that has all 3 of Tomino's light novels for the original Gundam. Char is important, and clearly Tomino likes the character, but Amuro is still the main character. I'd say more, but it's been a few years and I don't remember that well.

Doesn't that one get compared to Fushigi Yuugi? (which I loved).

Our own laurenhiya21 introduced me to Bananya over the weekend. I'm going to tell you the title of the first episode, and the entire show is fully encapsulated in that title.

Bananya: The Kitty Who Lived in a Banana

The eps are 3 minutes long and on Crunchyroll.

Another fun short series is Military!:

It's also on crunchyhole or whatever that thing is called.

I'm still watching Pumpkin Scissors, but I'm only on episode six out of twenty four. I still enjoy the show. I just haven't made much time for anime lately. Been spending all my free time at night gaming hardcore.

I recently finished Space Battleship Yamato 2199, which is basically a Metroid Zero Mission level remake (ie AMAZING) of the original 70's Yamato series. I generally prefer older anime in a lot of cases, or originals, but 2199 transcends the first one in every way to me. It was also technically produced as a 26 episode OVA, so the budget is pretty awesome with great art/animation. They recycled a lot of the classic music and I wouldn't have it any other way... orchestra always goes well with space drama so it still fit like a glove. What 2199 does better is fleshes out the characters so much more and on both sides. There were more key characters on the Gamilas side that were really intriguing and awesome.

Trailer:

Really can't praise it enough. Yamato is basically the Star Wars of Japan. It's been awhile since I gave an anime a 10/10, but if you're a sucker for sci-fi and space drama like me you definitely need to see this. Though I would say, try to watch the original first to see how amazingly faithful it is to it, while becoming its own thing. This was definitely a labor of love and produced by fans.

The second Yamato series I liked way more than the original, and there are some rumors that they will be remaking that season as well. Definitely crossing my fingers.

I plan to watch some of the other Yamato movies sometime soon and stumbled upon this article detailing the alternate timelines and how it all works, might be useful for anyone interested:

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 sounds awesome. I'm on it. Thanks for the rec!

I must be going senile. :? I went and watched some stuff on Youtube from this series, turns out I've already seen it! I forgot the name, but I recognized all the characters and started remembering the story as I watched bits and pieces of random episodes. I think I've seen so much anime now, it all just blurs together in my mind.
