NES Classic
Re: NES Classic
Pretty sweet, think I'll have to get one, especially for the kids to mess around with.

Re: NES Classic
People have been wanting Nintendo to jump onto the Plug-n-play band wagon for a while but I'm surprised they did it. I guess the post Iwata Nintendo is finally starting to show it's a very different animal.
The game line up is also really nice and getting some of the non-Nintendo console-defining games like Castlevania, Mega Man 2 and Ninja Gaiden in there makes it that much better. It's a bargain for those who don't already own these games in some other way.
This also gives them something for folks to put under the Christmas tree this year.
If this is successful maybe a SNES version will be next, or a Game Boy handheld.

Re: NES Classic
That's a great lineup of games. I'm really happy to see something like this out there.
As for Super C being included over the original, Contra isn't even on the Virtual Console, either, so there has to be something that's tying up the rights to it. Doesn't help that Konami pretty liberally snitched from various movie properties, either.

I think you're probably right and nostalgia for the original Contra aside, Super C is still a fine game and at least they have something representing Contra.

I also wondered that. Makes sense, right? They could strip down the Wii hardware as much as possible, then pre-package ROMs with the OS. Throw in a redesigned Classic Controller and they're good to go with a "new" product that appeals to all kinds of gaming fans...

$60 USD, extra controllers for $10 USD.
So build and emulation quality isn't known at this point, but I've read that it supports save states. Assuming it's somewhat sturdy and the emulation is up to the usual Nintendo Virtual Console standards, I'm definitely interested. That's an impressive list of games packed onto the console - there were always going to be gaps with only 30 games selected and Nintendo dominating the selections, but there were fewer gaps than I expected.
I'm also keen on picking up at least one extra controller for Wii/Wii U gaming if they are well built. Making it compatible with standard Classic Controller ports is a great idea.

So Zelda 2 and Castlevania 2 would actually be playable? Hallelujah!
Re: NES Classic
Castlevania 2 doesn't need save states to not be frustrating; you always respawn on the same screen so the most it can get you is not losing hearts (and you don't need much in the way of hearts past the opening). But I agree that Zelda II with save states is better than restarting from the palace every time you game over.

I really can't imagine Nintendo is going to half-ass it like an AtGames plug-n-play but we'll see.

They have enough bad press with the WiiU. If they half-assed a little emulation box in any way they'd never hear the end of it.

Re: NES Classic
I'll be getting this to put under the tree this Christmas. I'm also planning on getting the AVS when it launches so all sorts of NES goodness in my future.
Obviously we could wish for more games but I really wish they had put more of their own games on it. This could have used some puzzle games like Yoshi or Wario's Woods and sports games like Pro Wrestling and Ice Hockey. Translated versions of Fire Emblem and Mother (Earthbound Beginnings) would have been great along with StarTropics II, DK 3, Wrecking Crew, Clu Clu Land, and Urban Champion would have been nice.
All in all though I'm happy and surprised. This is a step in the right direction and hopefully this will lead to more.
