NES Classic
Re: NES Classic
I wonder if this is just a test market for Nintendo. I mean just think if this sells off the shelves if Nintendo just says what the hell let's start making the nes and snes systems again with new games. Highly unlikely but we can dream right?

Re: NES Classic
Pretty sure this will just be modified Wii hardware with a new OS and the games will be the VC versions of them.
Did they announce a price?

If you'll look at the image, the person's hand is the size of the console. It's way smaller than a real NES, no original cartridges could fit in there. "Suspend point" sure sounds like a save state and emulation to me.
Do recall in the last couple of years they had been heavily hiring people familiar with the Android format. Perhaps they developed or licensed(hope not) an emulator and are re-using some of their own already R&D'd tech along the ARM chip line of processors. They could be using some cheap ARM chip in there with some limited storage on a chip both for the games and added space of some size (1GB is almost free it's so cheap) for all the save points and other under the hood stuff. I could see that fall into the price range along with whatever payout/licensing deal they have with the third party titles.
I'd hope they don't stop with this, maybe go in different directions. Perhaps it can be flashed/added to with packs through the controller port much like the Neo-Geo X had added game packages. Or maybe they'll do another that does all things 8bit Gameboy, SNES perhaps? N64 wouldn't be in the realm, that wouldn't be cheap. I think this is them testing the waters.
ALIEN-- $59.99

Looks cool. I will be buying one for the novelty of it if nothing else. (I can play all of my carts on my Retron 5.)
Re: NES Classic
This looks cool. I'd have preferred the original contra over Super C, though. And I'm not sure who needs another copy of Pac Man. But the packaging looks sexy and the lineup of games is strong.

Don't hold your breath...
Re: NES Classic
Yeah no, like I said, it's probably one of two things.
A test -- Sells well? Then do 8bit Gameboy handheld on the go that's closed (like the Sega GG/SMS/Gen ones)
Maybe it's also a test if it sells well and we don't realize it, but you can jack a faux cartridge or memory creditcard usb like thing into the controller 2 PORT and then inject Vol 2 of 30 more games to the thing (like the Neo-Geo X expansion packages.)
Anything is possible.

Soon I hope.
The most exciting thing about this announcement is the NES Classic Controller I can use for Wii and Wii U.
A SNES one would be great.
An N64 one would be even better for my money. That's the console whose controls translate worst to the Classic Controller for sure.

I'm mainly curious if there will be some way to add more games, perhaps from the eshop. I wouldn't care if I had to hook it up to my computer, if it meant I got to play a legitimate copy of a game.
Current systems: Nintendo Switch and XBox 360,
