Re: "FPS" test of your implicit racial bias
This confirmed for me one of the character flaws of which I'm most ashamed - I'm really, really, really bad at Lethal Enforcers and Virtua Cop. Please never give me a handgun and ask me to make split second decisions because everyone within a 10 mile radius will die.

This level of nuance would require more than a still screen flash game.Ack wrote: Second, I don't like the implication that all people holding guns are automatically "evil" and must be killed. No context is applied, so for all I know I've been killing citizens who are only using their civil liberties. Considering that one of the black men recently shot was in fact reaching for his permit to present legal proof at the time when the officer shot him, I find this to be of questionable taste.
I used to listen to Marilyn Manson and play DOOM during the time of Columbine. I feel your pain in the first person, brother.Ack wrote: Third, I also take issue with the name "FPS." As someone who is a fan of FPS and who spent many years being regularly bullied, harassed, unfairly mistreated, and regularly accused of being a potential school shooter, I find this association personally offensive.
Though not outright prejudiced or bigoted, I am a white person who has received multiple benefits and privileges from institutions and society in general, which haveAck wrote: Fourth, JT is racist.
not been equally afforded to black people, or other people of color. These benefits and privileges have affected my education, employment, housing, interactions with law enforcement, and likeliood of being given the benefit of the doubt in many social situations. Though I strive for equality and believe in the value of diversity, in the case of instutionalized racism, you are correct.

Re: "FPS" test of your implicit racial bias
While I try avoid referring to institutional or systemic racism simply as "racism" because I'm a nit-picker for definitions, this is DEFINITELY important to point out. One of the most valuable experiences I've had living in Henderson for the past two years is being forced to confront the obscene privilege I was afforded growing up as a white kid in a middle class town (even if my mom and I were at the bottom of the working class) and realizing how attitudes, assumptions, etc. that, growing up, I thought were completely neutral actually have a definite racist undertone that I never saw nor intended.J T wrote:Though not outright prejudiced or bigoted, I am a white person who has received multiple benefits and privileges from institutions and society in general, which haveAck wrote: Fourth, JT is racist.

It's not that all white people are racist, but you can't be white in America and not benefit immensely from racism.

Fifth, humor is highly subjective.
On a serious note, I'd never seriously accuse JT of racism. I mean that.

Oh good. I so much prefer lists of 5 over lists of 4. I am openly prejudiced against numbers. Base 10 power!Ack wrote:Fifth, humor is highly subjective.

I agree, I think that would make it a lot more relevant.J T wrote:I think this would likely have been a more interesting test if you saw the suspects first, and then waited for them to pull something out of their pocket in a quick draw situation.

You ARE numerically prejudiced! Your precious video games are base 2, you know, and programming often uses base 16 on the user-side. Why do you insist on continuing to support your computationally non-optimal number system in the face of digital superiority?J T wrote:Oh good. I so much prefer lists of 5 over lists of 4.
