Ah thank you that answers my question. I'm doing Demon's Souls now and was going to go to KFIV after, should I do KF first? I'll have to dust off the PSP. :)

I just played Smart Ball for SNES for the first time in a while, and it's a really good, underrated game. However, the box art puzzled me. It shows an angry blob character (Jerry), while the actual game and sprites are quite cute. Thinking of the similar localization of Kirby's design, as well as the interesting fact that Sony published the game, I decided to do some homework to see who developed the game, and if the box art was cuter in Japan. I was surprised to find out that the latter is true, and that Jerry isn't just the name of the character, but a bad translation of "Jelly", since the Super Famicom game was titled "Jerry Boy", and that a planned sequel titled "Jelly Boy 2" was planned. Also, it was developed by Game Freak! It was their second game, in fact! Gotta love that Ken Sugimori character design.

By default I encourage any and every gamer to play King's Field, preferably all of the main series. The KF games are the best dungeon crawlers I've played.

That said, I recognize the first KF is quite primitive, and doesn't represent the holistic quality of KF4. So I hesitate to recommend playing the original Japanese KF first, because its primitiveness may dissuade some from continuing with the series. Furthermore, playing KF1-3 on PSP would pale in comparison to playing them via ePSXe, due to the latter's ability to enhance PS1 graphics.

So what I recommend, is to play KF4 first. If you finish it, and enjoy it enough, go back and play KF1-3 via ePSXe. That's what I did, and I had a great time. (I did beat KF3:Pilot Style on PSP though, but that little excerpt is only about an hour long.)

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Ha, wow, I don't see folks talk about Smart Ball much, that's for sure! I remember when I beat it some years back, I felt like I had completely missed some plot element or something with the ending. There are definitely some changes due to localization. It's a fun little game though. Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

I had Smart Ball because it came with a game lot and I held onto it but never played it until I saw the GameCenter CX episode on Jelly Boy and realized it was pretty cool.

Yeah, I always did think that it was a neat little game as well. Thanks! :)

I still need to get around to watching GameCenter CX, I've been putting it off for years now.

Also, on a related note, since I liked this game as a child, I was looking for other games similar to Smart Ball, so I looked to Super Putty on SNES to give me something similar. It's really not that good, even though the characters are similar and have similar controls. I only gave it a rental once or twice growing up, but picked it up for $4 at a local game store a few months ago.

Maybe look into Gish on the PC if you don't mind branching away from consoles. It also features platforming and sticking to walls and ceiling, though there are way more physics puzzles involved. I found Gish harder to play, but I know some folks really enjoyed it.

Nonetheless, its sequel, Putty Squad, got a physical release on the 3DS, PS4, and PS Vita. Why?????!!!!!

You know, I might. I played a lot of the games that had characters in Super Meat Boy, like bit.trip and Flywrench, so Gish would be a good one to play since it has physics puzzles and such. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hate to double post, but a really good thought just came into my head while adding my collectiong to rfgeneration. I can't imagine being such a crazy collector to go for NES 3 screw/5 screw/seal/no seal variants. There's just too many, and plus, if you go that route of completion, you have to get TWO copies of Stadium Events, since that one has entries for both 3 screw and 5 screw on rfgen.
