I have Resident Evil 5 on my PS3 along with all of the DLC, but I still pre-ordered for PS4 for the same reason that I got Resident Evil 6 for PS4 - it's my favorite horror series, and I want to get every re-release for my collection (and I prefer the DualShock 4 over the DualShock 3, so if I ever want to replay, I'll want to do so on PS4).

I get that this is somewhat of a cash grab. I do not understand why everyone shits on the way it looks. I watched the video and thought it looked nicer. What are people expecting? I like how people complain how they hate the game yet it must have sold enough for them to have a remaster of it, so somebody liked it.

Well, a shitty game can still sell well just like a masterpiece game can sell like shit. Just look at how every Call of Duty game moves 10 or 20 million copies. With only a few exceptions, those games are mediocre at best. Colonial Marines, Sonic '06, and E.T. are all great examples of this, as well.

I will say, however, that while Resident Evil 5 and 6 were not good games, they weren't as bad as the Internet (myself included for 5) makes them out to be, and they've got the fervent fanbase love for the series behind them, as well. Those two are also best played multiplayer, and while the 360 had solid online and the PS3's online was decent, neither were as robust or reliable as the current generation's online networks (plus broadband connections are much more common today).

Yeah dude, you're playing a really different tune there... thought you hated RE5.

Capcom has us by the balls. I feel like RE6 is a good 6/10 for me, it was definitely mostly a filler game... but I really do want the PS4 version and I guess I shouldn't kid myself, I'll probably get RE4-RE5 as well at some point. Surely they could have had some awesome mega collection though, maybe that's still possible.

I'd easily take RE5 and RE6 over Zero, and maybe CV. An item chest would have made Zero 10x better. It was interesting concept and change, but it literally felt like half my gametime on it was manually "transferring" items across the mansion the further you progress into it. Yikes.

This one may be harder to come by than RE6 HD. The GameStop manager said she got 7 copies for PS4, but only because I preordered. No one preordered on XOne and she only received a single copy. I think someone on Gfaqs mentioned that their local Best Buy only received 2 copies and they sold out very quickly.

Played through the first chapter and part of the way into the second. The frame rate drops are obvious to anyone who is even remotely sensitive to that sort of thing. The game still runs considerably better than the PS3 version could ever hope to. 60fps goes a long way. Aiming is more instinctive and the gameplay feels faster as a result. It looks gorgeous. The assets still hold up and everything ends up looking better than the more recent RE6. The MT Framework engine is just as impressive today as it was almost a decade ago when RE5 debuted.

For those who are unfamiliar, this is based on the Gold release, including all of the DLC, as well as a few additions that were exclusive to the PC release until now. There's a new camera setting that is pulled back. It is the same position that the camera takes when holding grenades in the previous gen version. There are some quirks though. The collision detection for the knife is messed up. Jill can barely stab anything, even if it's right in front of her. Swiping reach for other characters has decreased to the point that only a single box can be smashed at a time. There are some other issues with Mercs and VS modes that I haven't checked yet.

Anyway, patchless and out of the box, $20 for a better performing version of one of the best co-op games from last gen is a steal.

Edited to correct a typo.

Nice review wip3outguy7, now I'm sold on it.

Yeah the MT Framework engine was impressive, even back playing them all on the PS3 I felt like RE6 was a definite visual downgrade. Came out pretty late though when Capcom obviously started cutting corners and haven't seem to repaired since then.

I do, but I also acknowledge that I'm a bit of a drama queen. Also I'm a huge Resident Evil fan, so I'll buy basically anything with that name. Plus for $20, a re-release for a system with (IMO) a better controller and better framerate is worth it.

A better framerate does not disguise the fact that the game design is terrible. At least they redeemed themselves with the Revelations games.

Yeah, cause you like downgraded hit detection, swimming portions in RE, and the worst characters ever in the franchise? Give me Sheva over Revelations 1 any day.
