Yep. 1980 was such a good year for horror films (and for me personally) that I guess I got a little carried away. I fixed my post.Ack wrote:Uh, prfsnl, wasn't Beyond the Black Rainbow released in 2010?

I first saw Jacob's Ladder in 1991, and rewatched about ten years later. Both times I enjoyed the film, and appreciated its plot (and PTSD allusions). I did not however find the film frightening in either view.Xeogred wrote:It's also like a bonus feature to look into the drug and conspiracy that was explored in Jacob's Ladder. Check that one out ASAP Exhuminator.
Of those, I've only seen The Shining and The Babadook. The Shining is a legit classic, but it didn't scare me. Babadook started off soooo great, but it eventually devolved into a hammy comedic film. At least it seemed comedic to me. It didn't even frighten my teenage daughter.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Cool. Be sure to check out:
The Shining (1980)
The Babadook (2014)
The Haunting (1963)
The Innocents (1961)
The Changeling (1980)
Burnt Offerings (1976)
The Last Exorcism (2010)
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010)
I will look into the other movies you mentioned. Beyond the Black Rainbow has been on my radar for some time.
You guys might think I'm silly, but this was actually a pretty damn good horror film:
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I'm glad you watched Cap, noise. Now that you have Cap and Thor out of the way, you can watch Avengers, right? The weight of the origin stories is out of the way now, so the audience can skip straight into the action with already familiar characters.noiseredux wrote:
holy shit The First Avenger was fantastic. I didn't know what to expect. I thought the origin story might be the first third of the movie with the rest taking place in current day. Instead... it was brilliant. The tie-ins to Stark and Odin and SHIELD and... just everything. As a kid I rented Captain America on VHS a bunch of times back in the day. To see a movie like this that just really does right by the character... I loved it.
I'm so jealous of you right now. I wish I could watch Avengers for the first time all over again. It's influential to every other superhero movie in the genre that's come out since.

Technically, Iron Man 2 still comes first (and before Thor as well, based on the post-credits scene). Probably not as important, but I think it does introduce Black Widow to the MCU and such.samsonlonghair wrote: I'm glad you watched Cap, noise. Wow. I wish I had enjoyed this film as much as you did. There were bits of it that were pretty good, but the whole early part with Chris Evans' face plastered on that scrawny body bugged me because it looked creepy weird. The technology just wasn't ready for that. It wasn't as bad as Tron Legacy, but still off-putting. The movie was entertaining, but not great.noiseredux wrote:

Yeah, I tend to forget about Iron Man 2. I honestly cannot remember what happened in that movie anymore. I'm going to assume that Robert Downey Jr. said something smart-alecy. Then some villain that he previously trusted stole a suit of armor. Then Pepper Pots was in danger. Then Iron Man saves the day, and RDJ says something else smart-alecy.isiolia wrote:Technically, Iron Man 2 still comes first (and before Thor as well, based on the post-credits scene). That about cover it?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Somewhat, yeah, though it does mean the MCU introductions of Black Widow and War Machine, along with updates/solutions to Tony's tech to bring it up to what's in Avengers. Been a while since I've watched it, just saying, it does come first, if the point is to watch things kind of in order.
