Gonna laugh if Exhum loves The Evil Within, but I guess it could go either way. Crossing my fingers!

Seriously though Exhum, if you haven't finished a single Silent Hill yet... don't even freaking bother with anything beyond the first four games first!

Some of American developed stuff is solid and better than lower RE-tier or something, but the Team Silent games are in a completely different league. I'd say I'm shocked you haven't played them much, but I only just got around to all of them myself 2-3 years ago. Since then I've already replayed some of them too. I don't know how to make this sound less pompous, but the Team Silent games come off as pure art to me. They are sheer excellence in design and perfection. Your mileage will vary with Silent Hill 4, but I loved it.

You know what else I love

These games have been on my mind lately for laughs, I might get the first two soon. I need to see the individual boobie physics in action for myself.

I've just never been much of a survival horror aficionado. (I've beaten quite a few Resident Evil games, but those aren't exactly scary.) I do own quite a few Silent Hill games, including the first four. I've always meant to play through them, along with the first three Fatal Frame games. I need to make this a priority, but those are all winter games to me, it's too damn hot to get into them right now.

Yeah DoAX is always a good time. I've got the Xbox, Xbox 360, and PSP versions. Haven't ponied up the cash yet for the Vita one. You would do well to check out the Rumble Roses games on PS2 and 360. I bet you'd love them.

Yeah, best to wait for Fall/October for horror stuff. I don't really approach Silent Hill for the scares, rather... I just think they have insanely cool worlds, atmosphere, and ideas. Like they just come off as really "cool" to me, but I guess that's weird haha. Nothing else quite like them. Fatal Frame 1 is rough, but still great. But Fatal Frame 2 holds up very well and I'd say it's one of the best.

The new DOAX looks very nice. Might import it sometime. lmao

I actually did play Rumble Roses at one point, maybe just a demo... but I do remember it being pretty legit actually. Reminded me of WCW vs NWO Revenge.

Summer is the time for ghostly activity / ghost stories, in Japan. (Usually around July and August.) I'd say it's getting to be the perfect time of the year for Fatal Frame. I played the Wii version of the second game, some time ago, and it was amazing. I feel like it wouldn't be quite as creepy without the camera over the girls' shoulders, but I'm still a bit interested in playing the Xbox versions of the first two.

Any particular reason, like a holiday or something?

I'm of the opposite opinion, simply because I think first person viewpoints are more immersive and therefore more involving.

Third person view = creepy stuff happening to character on screen.

First person view = creepy stuff happening TO ME.

I'm not really sure. Traditionally, the season doesn't matter too much, since they have mythological/demonic bullshit to scare the pants off of people, for any season. It's just around this time of the year that people in Japan are more likely to test their mettle by visiting haunted and/or abandoned buildings, parks, etc, and share ghost stories. I think of it kind of like campfire traditions, in the West.

I meant in comparison to the original XBOX and PS2 versions. I'm pretty sure those used a lot more static camera angles. I completely agree that the closer to first-person, the more creepy things become. The Wii version of Fatal Frame II brings the player closer to the action, without actually being first-person. It's sort of a compromise.

Okay, I see where the confusion is coming into play here. The Xbox version (AKA Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Director's Cut) added a first person view option as one of its bonuses. In first person mode the player can play through the entire game from a first person perspective. So I was referring to playing that version in that mode.

This was very much my impression of The Evil Within from what I saw of it. The story came off as the Resident Evil guys trying very hard to write a Silent Hill story, and they just RE4'd it up too hard to achieve that. Kinda wanted to mention it earlier, but didn't wanna be the first one to give impressions on the story.

Also, fun fact, The Evil Within's Japanese title is Psycho Break. I think I like that title better.

I like the title Evil Within just because I feel it is a nod to Resident Evil.

Oh, my. That's outstanding. I might be playing the XBOX version this summer, then. I'm a little afraid that Chitose won't be quite as amazing in that version, though.
