I loved Sonic as a kid. Obviously the classic games are the core, but I loved a lot of different iterations of Sonic. The Sega Game Gear was my first gaming device, so I had all the Sonic games for that, later expanding to the rest of the Sega-universe. To this day I feel like Sonic fandom is in my blood... I actually own every issue of the American comic book, including spinoffs, specials, promo-comics, variant covers, and even the run of "Comic Shop News" that included a little Sonic comic side-story. The series has been bad more than it's been good, but I haven't yet come to terms with ruining my perfect collection. I think once I get to Sonic Universe #100 and Sonic the Hedgehog #300, I'll be psychologically prepared to stop collecting.
When I was little, I thought the serious Sonic cartoon (SatAM as the cool kids call it) was pretty much the best show of all time. I still love it. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was kind of the "weird filler show" to tide you over until the weekend but there's a part of me that really thinks it's great. The characters are drawn with GREAT EXPRESSION, it feels a lot like a classic cartoon (e.g. Looney Tunes, Hana-Barbera, Harvey Comics-style) in the way characters are drawn. IMO it's better than people give it credit for. I also love the Sonic anime OVA. That DVD is one of my TREASURES.
I had Sonic CD on the PC, got it for $5 as a new HP Pavilion owner, that's probably why I like it so much. I also have the mobile port which includes the JP and US soundtracks. I still enjoy the US Collision Chaos theme as well as the Special Stage theme. I didn't mind the stop and go so much, but I will agree on the frustrating final boss.
I watched the less-serious cartoon, it was on every morning before school in '93 on WPIX in New York. I couldn't get into SatAM.

Sonic 1 and 2 were the first games I ever played, despite being a child of the mid-to-late-90s, as my household had a Genesis all the way until 2003 or so. I absolutely loved these games, and my parents knew it, so the Christmas I got my Gamecube, they got me Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. I absolutely loved that game too, though I haven't played it in years so I can't say if its held up or not. I later bought Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Heroes, two other games I loved. The best game I ended up getting, though, was the Sonic Gems collection. I saw a picture of Sonic CD on the box and it reminded me of the Sonic games I had played as a little kid. Needless to say, Sonic CD ended up becoming one of my favourite games of all time. I was actually quite the Sonic fanboy for awhile, at least until the year I got a 360 with Sonic 06 for Christmas, which ended up ruining the series for me. Granted, I got back into it a bit after Unleashed came out, but I never was able to get as into as I once was. Still, its a series that holds a special place in my heart and that I have a lot of fond memories of.
