Phantasy Star Online - Should there be a Racketboy server?

Post by marurun »

What with the recent news of ALL DC PSO servers being taken offline, is it time for us to coordinate on a Racketboy site server?

What would it take for us to get our own server up and running and maintain it? How hard would it be to write up instructions for members of this community to connect?

Any thoughts on this?

If this has been discussed before, pardon me. I've been busy lately and it's put me WAY behind on my Racketboy forum reading.

I don't think we have enough members to fuel a server. How many of here own the PC version and are willing to crack it to use a custom server? How many of us here own the Dreamcast version and are willing to use a gameshark each time to load the custom server?

Another thing is whether any of us actually like the game or not, I may be in the minority but I disliked the game very much, it felt too clunky and slow, and had itemization issues, too many problems with the game in my view.

It was amazing at launch, but it's gameplay didn't age well. There's far better online RPGs out there now. I highly suggest Guild Wars to PSO fans who don't have the time to dedicate to a true MMO.

I'd like to try it (never have), but I don't have a way to get my DC online now without a modem-to-broadband hack

I had it at launch actually (well my brother did and we shared the Dreamcast) but before that I had already played Diablo II and was used to it's fluid and fast gameplay. I wasn't impressed with it at launch either. I think they should stop trying to make the PS series just an online game and take it back to it's single player roots because PSU didn't go over very well. Either that or they really need to get with the times if they want an all online RPG, but that's Sonic Team's problem and we know they have enough problems as it is...
