I think that around Hellraiser 4 or so most of the scripts were like the Die Hard films - meaning they just took other scripts and added Pinhead to them and called them Hellraiser movies. Inferno is a dumb movie with cool looking Cenobites.

I didn't know what to expect w/ Guardians. I know it got glowing reviews, but I knew nothing of the comics. When it started, I felt mixed. I was thinking "hmm... sort of Last Starfighter, sort of Star Wars..." but once Thanos was introduced I perked up. Infinity Gem? Yes! Shit got awesome. Rocket was so badass. By the end of the movie my wife and I were like "this is awesome! Can't wait for the sequel!" and the post-credits cameo was BRILLIANT.
Loved this one. I feel much the same as you. I went in knowing practically nothing about the Guardians of the Galaxy. I have never read a single Guardians comic book, and you know what? I think that actually helped me enjoy the movie. I went in with no preconceived notions about who the characters were.
We all have certain expectations about who Spider-man is, right? Neither Tobey Maguire nor Andrew Garfield exactly met our expectations. How could they? On the other hand, GotG is practically a blank slate for us. I really like how the script writers played off this. "Starlord Who?"

I know that was the case with Hellraiser: Deader (the 7th one).

I'm a big fan of Hellraiser 2, but I guess people like the first one more. I loved seeing more of the Labyrinth though. I think I remember 3 being really unlikeable, outside of the hilarious bar scene and then exploding TV's and stuff among the streets, the whole thing was just a bad Elm Street ripoff. I actually recall liking Bloodline a bit because they embraced Pinhead being a slasher by this point and had some cool cenobites, some interesting stuff story wise though the execution was hilariously bad. I haven't gone further than that... yet.

I've seen Christine a few times. It's one of my wife's favorite King adaptations. I think what I'd say about it is that the story is really silly (a killer car, right?) but John Carpenter makes it not silly to watch. Great casting, great music.

The Witch I'm really mixed on. I love a good slow-burner. The story was good. The acting was great. The visuals were creepy and disturbing. But my issue was that due to the accents and dialect, I felt like I only understood like 50% of what was being said. It felt like I was watching a foreign film with no subtitles - just trying to pick up on context clues and bits of dialogue that I could make out. Anyway, the ending was crazy. And I still managed to feel for these characters even if I was lost on half of their conversations. I felt it was worth seeing, but I probably won't watch it again.

Noise, I watched it with subs on. It is much better that way. If you can get a beam on the dialect it becomes a much more character driven film. Subtle character details that are important to the story are lost in translation.
Of course, it may still not be your cup of tea.

No no... I did like it. But I wish I had known to turn subs on. My wife and I agreed that would be the way to rewatch it. But that could take a while.

I agree with you about the premise. On the surface, it sounds really silly. But the more I've thought about it over time, the creepier it gets. I mean, how does one stop a demonically possessed killer car? Sure, you can try to squish it somehow, but that thing can re-generate itself, right? I guess you'd have to trick it into falling down a bottomless chasm and pray it doesn't find out a way to climb up vertical rock faces.

I saw The Witch in the theatre, so I wouldn't have had the option of subtitles even if I wanted to, but I think I caught most of what was going on. It's a very interesting period-type piece for sure, and something that I think definitely achieves the tone and atmosphere it was going for. Not only were the visuals striking (and disturbing), but it was also unsettling watching the disintegration and destruction of the family unit due to overzealous religious beliefs and paranoia.
A very interesting film, but I agree that it's not something I'm thinking about seeing again any time soon.
