Good one.
Seriously though, I do think that racists hate something about themselves.

I knew a guy like that once. We went to a party that happened to be hosted at the house of a gay couple. First words from his mouth..."I'll party with you, but don't try anything because I am straight!"
 I need to tell you something about your acquaintance, JP. If the first words out of his mouth are to proclaim his straightness... guess what?
If he imagined scenarios in which gay party hosts are trying to seduce him... guess what?
If he spent the drive to the party thinking about homosexuality... guess what?

 Not that there's anything wrong with that.

That's a mighty narrow bridge you're walking on Samson. Just saying.

Not sure I take your metaphor, but it's all in good fun to me. 8)

Your one note line of thinking on this matter is flawed in that it places people in a box, even perhaps yourself.

I understand you are partly posting in jest. However, you are leaving out so many factors and lines of reasoning that your own logic could be turned around on you just as easily as you are applying it to others.

The acquaintance of mine may have been closeted, I don't know...he isn't out that I'm aware. The shooter in question turned out to be closeted or not so closeted as the case may be. Really what is the relevance in either scenario?

If it is to place the blame for all hate crimes within the same group they are perpetrated against, I have to wonder the motivation.

If it is to try and paint the perpetrator of the hate crime in a "negative" light...well, then the motivation is obvious.

If it is neither, then you simply aren't considering any perspective other than your own. Which is a potentially dangerous (at the very least narrow minded) way of thinking.

I'm not looking to start an argument, I just think it is a shame that rather than focusing on talking about victims the most noteworthy topic has turned to the fact that the perpetrator himself was a homosexual. Especially since this seems to indicate some false justification for further assumptions on the matter.

The thing is, this line of thinking is ghastly because it puts the blame of homophobic attacks on the victims themselves and allows the bigots to wash their hands. It's like jesting about "black on black" crime when that shooting in a black Church happened.

Nah, I don't blame the victims. No one deserves to be shot. Especially not these folks. They were just out dancing, having a fun time, hurting no one. I blame the shooter of course.

What I'm saying is that hateful violent people always hate something within themselves, then externalize that anger onto others.

Oh, I know, I wasn't telling you particularly, just explaining why the line of thought is a bit ghastly.

Speaking of which, there's a lot of talk about the whole "Brexit" thing. As we get down to the wire on it, any thoughts? How will it affect Scotland and relations with Ireland?

I'm not so sure that we're getting down to the wire on Brexit. The way I understand it, this is only a parliamentary vote on whether or not to hold another national vote. Even if this vote is Yes, the UK has to go through another vote. Even if both vote are yes, that only gives the UK the right to enter negotiations with the EU to negotiate terms of divorce... which may or may not pan out.

There's a lot of procedure here. Governments move slowly.
