Re: PC build thread
I REALLY want a 1080 just for the sake of having one, but until I play something that my 980 can't run at 60 fps on max, I'm going to wait. I'm sure there are such games out there, but I don't have any yet.

Re: PC build thread
I'm actually thinking of going a more budget route and looking at a build with those new ATI cards. They seem like a really nice price/performance tradeoff. I could definitely use an upgrade, as any rig I get will be replacing my M11x R2 as my PC gaming platform.
Re: PC build thread
If only something out right now was priced right to make me want to replace my 960.

There are a bunch out there depending on the monitor you use.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I REALLY want a 1080 just for the sake of having one, but until I play something that my 980 can't run at 60 fps on max, I'm going to wait. I'm sure there are such games out there, but I don't have any yet.

Re: PC build thread
I just got my R9 380 within the past year so I won't be upgrading any time soon, but that RX 480 they just announced sure does look nice, especially for the price.\

4gb = $200, 8gb = $240

Re: PC build thread
Well, my monitor only does 1080p (since my TV is my monitor), so 4K isn't a consideration for me yet.Jmustang1968 wrote:There are a bunch out there depending on the monitor you use.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I REALLY want a 1080 just for the sake of having one, but until I play something that my 980 can't run at 60 fps on max, I'm going to wait. Yeah, I brought that up a page or so back. I think I might be tempted to grab one myself. I'm more a console guy but it never hurts to have that PC power on the side, haha. I have a 7950 right now.Nintendork666 wrote:I just got my R9 380 within the past year so I won't be upgrading any time soon, but that RX 480 they just announced sure does look nice, especially for the price.\

1440P monitor, only a top of the line 980 can really take full advantage of them. But yeah, your current set up will take care of most games for a good while.ElkinFencer10 wrote:Well, my monitor only does 1080p (since my TV is my monitor), so 4K isn't a consideration for me yet.Jmustang1968 wrote:There are a bunch out there depending on the monitor you use.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I REALLY want a 1080 just for the sake of having one, but until I play something that my 980 can't run at 60 fps on max, I'm going to wait. VR is the other thing that really takes advantage of the 1080s, but that is only a consideration for a few.

Re: PC build thread
VR is a BIG thing for me, but it wouldn't be a driving force behind upgrading until I can afford a PC-compatible VR headset, both actually able to spare the money and able to justify it with owning supported games. Main reason I'm getting PS VR is because it's both cheaper than Oculus or HTC's headset and I know that I'll be able to use it as a display for any HDMI device even if it's not a PS VR compatible game.Jmustang1968 wrote:VR is the other thing that really takes advantage of the 1080s, but that is only a consideration for a few.

Re: PC build thread
I am taking a new job so I am planning to finally update everything in my system in the next few months. The Q6600 is finally long in tooth and will spend the rest of his days running a pinball machine.
So here is the plan, Id like to keep the budget around $500, but I dont need a PSU, GPU, or Windows key - all still available from previous builds. PSU is a Corsair 1kw (HX series), it is six years old, but has under 10 hours on it. GPU is a 4gig PNY 960, Windows will be 7 Pro 64bit or 10. My monitor is 720p and wont be updated for atleast three more years. Case will be Rosewill RSV-L4000 - I figure everything else is rack mounted might aswell keep the trend.
My thoughts right now are:
Mobo - MSI Z170-A
CPU - i5 6600
Ram - 16gig DDR4 -Gskill Ripsaw V series
SSD - 500gig SSD - SAMSUNG 850 evo
And I come in at alittle ($50ish) over budget, which is acceptable.
