Nope. Real hardcore gamers know that $350 buys a lot of Super Famicom Atari 7800 games...Exhuminator wrote:Because the normal PS4 doesn't already target hardcore gamers, you see.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
In all seriousness you've articulated the reason why I don't have the current gen systems. If I had a spare $350 to drop on video games (this rarely happens) you better believe I'd go for something like ten $35 SNES games over a PS4.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
can you just let me build you a new gaming PC? I'm serious. I have so many extra parts around. Give me less than $350 and I can build you something legit.BoneSnapDeez wrote:In all seriousness you've articulated the reason why I don't have the current gen systems. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
To a point, that's due to going for original carts/etc though. $35 can also buy a Raspberry Pi 3, which you could be loaded up with every SNES (and 2600) game ever made. Meanwhile, there's unlikely to be an alternative to a PS4 for playing PS4 games for quite a while.
No real right or wrong answer, since it's just what you enjoy. Objectively though, if you want access to all the games, there are fewer options when it comes to newer generations.

you know me so well. Haha. Serious quote from PM "you'd have to pay for Windows key unless you want SteamOS..."fastbilly1 wrote: Since he doesnt have windows keys, they would have to be SteamOS.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It's kind of fascinating to think about this, but how and why do you guys think that Square Enix allows themselves infinite time and money spent on Final Fantasy? I mean, I'm more than positive they are going to make up all that money and plus some when FFXV comes out and then the FFVIIR episodes start dropping. But what other company gets to pull a Duke Nukem Forever development schedule and get away with it? I was just thinking the whole ordeal is interesting since if it's still how it was when the merger first happened, I'm assuming Enix is the main branch of the company. I don't know how the IP's are handled behind the scenes and if there's any diversity within the company, but maybe they made sure that they would always get to give FF extra love and attention no matter what.
Doesn't Dragon Quest sell more than Final Fantasy in Japan?
I guess there's no denying the IP hasn't been dormant at all or anything with other releases and dozens of ports still coming out, but there is nothing else quite as weird and crazy as some of their development cycles, that you never see in other big publishers/devs.
In a strange way though, I've kind of come to enjoy their obtuse way of communicating with the fans and the media. I've never really seen them come off as another EA, Activision, or Ubisoft. They've become one of my favorite publishers over the last gen or two.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Final Fantasy is still wildly successful in both its home region and overseas, so it makes sense for them to monetize it as much as possible. In contrast, while Dragon Quest is crazy popular in Japan, the rest of the world? Not so much. I'm guessing they make far more money on Final Fantasy overall.
