It is on my list of things to get. Me want, even though I really don't know much anything about it XpXeogred wrote:Dang, that's Mana level sprite background work.
Did any of you guys play Soma Bringer? I'm still pissed we never got that. Thanks Nintendo.

All I know is it's awesome Monolith Soft. I'm gonna laugh if it has a better plot than Xenoblade X.
I still need to play X myself, but I basically never ever hear anyone talk about the story. And being a Takahashi Xeno game... that's the biggest disappointment ever to me.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It's not that the story in X is bad; it's actually quite good. It's just that it's such a god damn pretty and technically impressive game, especially given the hardware it's on, that the story, as good as it is, is one of the least impressive things about it. But it's like if someone gave you the deed to Joel Osteen's obscene mansion, a brand new Bugatti Chiron, and a factory sealed copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. Are any of those bad? Fuck no. It's just that one is less impressive than the other two, no matter how amazing that one thing may be.Xeogred wrote:All I know is it's awesome Monolith Soft. Specifically, now that I've looked, two of the founders worked on Mana.

My wife and I co-op'd it a couple years ago. We both loved it. It does suck that we didn't get it officially in English, but an excellent fan translation exists for it:Xeogred wrote:Did any of you guys play Soma Bringer? I'm still pissed we never got that. Thanks Nintendo.

I wrote the big review for it on that page despite not getting credited but 'eh.
Nico blog has it prepatched in English:

So you can play it on your DS flashcart or use DeSmuME.
I freaking loved Soma Bringer, 9/10 game for me. The OST is godly and I still listen to it time to time. It's a fantastic co-op dungeon crawler that supports up to 3 simultaneous players through the entire campaign. It might not be as fun single player, but I still would have played through it single player anyway. The AI's not too shabby.

A co-op dungeon crawler!? I just gotta keep reminding myself that I have no friends to play with so I don't just order 2 copies immediately XpExhuminator wrote:My wife and I co-op'd it a couple years ago. We both loved it. Also kinda thinking of getting a nicer gaming keyboard. I'm using an ancient one atm, and while for normal typing it works okay, while playing HotS lately I've noticed that I'll hit keys too quickly and it won't register and a spell won't go off. If I'm still into HotS in a week, I'll consider it. It's just such a big investment for someone like me who rotates between obsessions so quickly.

Very nice. Yeah from what I've heard of the OST it seems incredible, Yasunori Mitsuda! The whole game just looks like an awesomely demade Xenoblade (Wii) in an awesome way.Exhuminator wrote:My wife and I co-op'd it a couple years ago. We both loved it. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
That's a very fair description. I remember while playing through it, a friend of mine was playing through Xenoblade. I recall us having a conversation about all the similarities the two games had in their gameplay and being surprised. Soma Bringer is seriously in the top tier of DS games, and the best dungeon crawler I've played on the system. Although when I say "dungeon" you spend a lot of your time exploring beautiful outdoor areas and futuristic cities. The easiest way to describe the gameplay is to say it's a mix of Diablo and Secret of Mana. It really is exactly that.Xeogred wrote:The whole game just looks like an awesomely demade Xenoblade (Wii) in an awesome way.
