I had to go to Kickstarter and check myself.

If you're getting a physical copy of the game though, you're at the $60 or more tier.

But I wish it was sprite based.

Either way it's going to be awesome. I have more faith in this than Mighty No 9
I feel the same but what I've seen of the in-game art so far looks pretty nice. Unlike Mighty No. 9 it's got a style and identity that goes beyond being just a generic clone of its predecessor.

The fact that things are coming together a lot faster and we're already seeing a wide-release demo is giving me confidence that Igarashi has a handle on what he's doing. Their campaign has been a well oiled machine without a peep of drama.

I agree - sprites would have been my preference also - but the game still looks really good from what I've seen so far and this is easily the KickStarted project that I'm most excited about. The team seems trustworthy, and the product in development seems to consistently be moving in a good direction.

I've been banking on physical copies being available post-release. Is that unlikely? I'd really like to buy for Wii U if the game comes to that platform, but didn't want to back because I didn't trust the console to still be alive and kicking.

Yes, there will be physical retail copies. They already had a deal with Deep Silver before the Kickstarter. The backer versions will have a few bits of extra content of course.

I still need to decide if I'm going to get the PS4 version or the Wii U version. I figure the PS4 version will run the best... but the Wii U version might end up rarer.

Either way, I pledged $100, so I'm looking forward to playing this demo for sure! It definitely looks like Castlevania. :)

I pledged enough for 2 -- think I'm gonna get the WiiU version with all the spiffy extras (especially since WiiU is the only 8th gen console I own) and get the PS4 for backup when I eventually pick one up.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed
Chronically out of date BST thread

And everyone who backed at $60 will get this demo (in addition to the proper beta later).

The thing about converting these 2D spiritual successors to 3D is that the environment always feel empty, unless you had a triple A budget to make them densely populated. I wish they went with a more stylized look like the new Wonder/Monster Boy reboots. Games like these certainly don't have to look empty.

Well at least it looks much better than MNr9.

And while I know the Kickstarter only raised so much money, there are some 3D games from small, even indie studios that are doing better texturing and 3D modeling. I wonder if these teams are really adequately skilled and prepared to work with these 3D tools?

Hmm... and I've seen many games that look very good and play very poorly. Seems like making a judgment about the skill of the development team based only on brief demo footage is terribly presumptuous?

Sure it's presumptuous. But it's a product that will eventually be subject to my evaluation prior to me making a purchasing decision. I'm sure they'll have the gameplay mechanics in the bag, but the visual appeal is important to me as well, and it's not like these guys don't have the kinds of industry connections to put strong artists and modelers on the team. Hopefully this really early footage is not indicative of any kind of final graphical state of the title.
