I'm not sure about it perfectly addressing it, but it does help ameliorate some of the frustration. I don't know that there is a way to "solve" the problem, per se, but I think it's fine and appropriate for us to talk about these issues. When people are frustrated because they feel under attack over sensitive issues like this I think we can give them a little leeway, as long as they don't cross a line. Which is to say, a little hyperbole is understandable, but being attacked doesn't mean the best course is to attack right back.

That's the power of nanomachines.

I freaking love Yoji Shinkawa's art and am glad him and Kojima are pretty much a package deal.

No, but really, the helicopter image is really insensitive since we do have trans and genderqueer members here (I'm assuming everyone knows that; maybe I just know that because I've stuck up for the "silent T" in LGBT a few times on here and people confided in me). I get that some people are sick of being told that they're being offensive, but trans and genderqueer people are even more sick of being marginalized and having their identities - the core of who they are as human beings - mocked in so blatant and open a fashion. I'm not saying we should ban people, but we should definitely say "Hey man, that's really fucked up" to the guys who post disrespectful shit instead of saying "Goddamn SJWs" to the ones who are sick of being both directly and indirectly attacked for absolutely no reason.

Actually in this case I'd say it's the issue between a harassed minority versus the call to censor someone else. Do we let said minority that is repeatedly downtrodden continue to be harassed, or do we openly advocate censoring someone's view because they do not correspond to our own and is not "socially acceptable" or offensive?

The reason I prefer to shy away from censorship is that by not banning it, we can find out who has those views and potentially combat them or educate the folks who hold them. Also, who is to say who the "cretins" are in every situation who should not be tolerated? The diversity of views just among the moderator team is pretty vast, and there are folks who you would agree with that have pulled "cretinous" maneuvers.

Yet at the same time, we want all of our trans members to feel they are safe here because we acknowledge how terrible the world can be to transgender individuals and want to offer an accepting, or at least sympathetic, place for them to relax. They're our friends after all, but more importantly they are human beings deserving of love, respect, and the ability to be themselves.

Exactly. Don't ban people, but we as a community should definitely call each other out when something unacceptable gets posted. I suspect that, most of the time, we probably don't realize that we're crossing a line. One thing that I've learned spending two years in a predominantly black town after spending my entire life previously in and almost completely white town is that, using racism as an example, a lot of people are so used to what feels "normal" for them that they don't realize that some of the things they say and do are actually really fucked up. The same goes for the LGBTQ community. Calling someone out on a post isn't necessarily a call for a ban or even a personal attack; it's just keeping our own community in check and reminding one another of what is and is not acceptable. No one's perfect; I get called out by my friends when I make jokes that aren't okay. I realize what I said, I apologize, and I move on. It doesn't have to be a big deal, and I don't try to defend an indefensible comment or joke. It's a learning experience, not an indictment of character.

Yeah, as a white guy in a relationship with a black woman, I get what you mean. But it is also an opportunity to learn at least.

I'd also like to add that when part of the community calls someone out for being insensitive and insulting (deliberate or not), that's not censorship. Censorship is the blocking out of content before it is seen. There is nothing wrong with having a conversation about why particular modes of speech can be very hurtful and offensive.
