My main problem with UT3 is that it took away Bombing Run, which was by far my favorite thing they added to the series in the 2k entries. Any of yall have experience with the Bombing Run mod?

Not sure if that works, but its worth a shot.
I can confirm that changing the download region to places outside the US is profit. Generally you want to pick places that don't sound like they have a lot of gamers in. The speed might be slower, but it does get you started.

I fortunately only needed to download a little bit, since I ported all my game files from my retail installation over to Steam.

I played for ~3 hours and this game seems awesome so far. Note that i never played a UT game before so i am total n00b to this.

I like the fast paced and frenzy action, although i don't like my slow LCD monitor

Seems that Epic made a really smart move with this offer.

They replaced it with this new mode in the titan pack where you collect skulls from killing enemies, and then running them to the enemy HQ and dumping them in. It's pretty much the same thing.

Oh and just a warning, the achievements shit isn't working. At least not for me. I dont see anyone else mentioning it. Can't imagine what would be wrong on my end.

Edit: Apparently people are saying that installing any custom maps, including the map pack I linked to earlier, shuts down all achievements. This is incredibly fucking stupid. TF2 doesn't do this.

That gametype is called Harvester - made famous in Q3TA. And while it is similar its not the same. I picked up a copy yesterday, Gamestop had it for $12 when I was buying Shenmue 2, and I am severely annoyed at my inability to activate it on steam currently.

Sometimes I think Steam intentionally limits the bandwidth on third party games.

Its a nice price for UT3. I already own the thing on x360 though... As you might expect, I'm pretty ticked that this Titan pack is a PC/PS3 exclusive. Whoever fucked up, MS or Epic - I'm not sure. But that sucks.

About UT3. I really liked it for awhile. I never played online, just with friends and system link. Eventually we tired of it because there are only about 5 good DM maps for small groups or one-on-one. The other gametypes are a mixed bag. CTF is fun but, eh, nothing special. Warfare is terrible. Assault was awesome and they removed it for this? The whole vehicles thing I can't get into. They just aren't fun to use.

Buying this for PC solves some of the problems. ie. you can download many more good DM maps probably. And maybe someone will mod Assault back in. But most of us will be playing something new, like L4D or Gears 2 instead anyway..

Like I always say, FPS games just dont work on consoles. The controls just dont provide the same sense of suspense and adrenaline. CTF can be intense as FUCK on PC, when you're plowing through the enemy base taking the flag back home, you got your flak cannon out, you see 5 enemies coming your way, and 1 or 2 on your tail. You have 7-10 flak shells. And with extreme accuracy of a mouse, you prevail and obliterate every enemy through a combination of jumps and dodges to weave yourself into point blank range with them, one at a time, ripping them to shreds. And when it works man...it's amazing. This would never work on an analog stick.

Once again, with Warfare mode, those vehicles need mouse accuracy, especially the flying ones. You have to be able to keep that crosshair on a node for 20 seconds, perfectly, unloading everything you got at it, while dodging all sorts of missiles.

And of course, UT3 requires internet play. If you bought it without the intention of playing online, that's your fault. L4D is not for you either. You better sell that one back.

I have Live. I could play UT3 on the net, but that seems rather pointless. Primarily I play with a few close friends, usually 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 instagib. Thats not something you play online... Splitscreen is where its at, with a few beers and friends.

L4D is similar. We mostly play with 4 people system link. Or sometimes we'll play versus online with the 4 of us on the same team.

Thats the really AWESOME thing about L4D - its one of the few games that is tuned for great gameplay with only 4 people. Which is realistically the max for gaming in a single room. Too many games assume we all want to sit alone in rooms, far off from any real contact with those we game with.

I understand, and thats why L4D is a part of my collection. But you can't go hating on UT3 because it's built for more people. Do you hate TF2 for the same reason? COD4? Anything else thats super popular and has guns?
