Outlaws: Handful of Missions - completed enough. Beat all of the missions but Civil War. Got to the end of Civil War, realized I missed something at the beginning of act 2 so I could not actually finish it. I am considering it done.fastbilly1 wrote:1. Dragon Quest 5 - DS

4. Wing Commander 1,2, or 3 - PC
5. Witcher 1 - PC - Ok so I started it a couple years ago, I will beat it this summer though.

Thief Gold
Ugh, I hate wizards.
The level I was on required I break into a wizard compound and steal a necessary artifact to be able to break one of the seals on the haunted chapel. The problem? The artifact is hidden behind a locked door, which requires I go through one of their elemental towers to enter, which requires I go to another elemental tower to find the key to said tower, which requires on that one that I go to another elemental tower for the key to that one, and so on. I pretty much looted the whole interior of their little keep before realizing that the first of those towers was simply unlocked. Argh.
Once I got into the towers, I was getting pretty tired. The water tower was short and sweet, but the earth tower took a bit and had some platforming. Then I got to the air tower, and that one sucked. The mages wandering those halls seemed to instantly recognize I was there if I attempted to take them out, so eventually I got fed up with it and ran. I then got to the fire tower and just ran through it as quickly as I could. You can blaze through that one pretty easily. Leave subtlety to the wind I say. It was midnight and I wanted to go to bed.
Thankfully that was the final tower I had to explore. I'd also cleared out the library and central tower, so it was a simple matter of running upstairs to clear out the artifact I needed. However the room it was in had eight different potential artifacts and a riddle necessary to solve it. I looked around, realized that the "sword" of the riddle was something far more subtle than I had hoped for, and then brute forced it. Why? Because it was midnight and I wanted to go to bed!
After that, escaping was a simple matter. One of the earliest things I had done was sneak into the dungeon and secure my exit route. I quickly ran out with the artifact in tow.
Moral of the story: never steal from wizards, and go to bed before midnight.
Now I must explore some ancient ruins for the next artifact. I'm hoping this level brings me a nice change of pace from the last one. Stupid wizards...

Well, folks, I've beaten Thief Gold. I will post my thoughts later in the Games Beaten 2016 thread. But the super short review would be that it is awesome, and you should play it. Yes, you.
I am moving on to Call of Duty 2 now in tandem with this month's Together Retro choice.

Best and most honest review I've seen for Thief right there folks.Ack wrote:the super short review would be that it is awesome, and you should play it. Yes, you.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
lol, looking forward to the review Ack. When do you plan to hit up the sequels? It'll be cool to see what you think of 2 and Deadly Shadows.
Speaking of Deadly Shadows... I ordered a brand new copy for the Xbox off Amazon the other day for like $15 after tax. Pretty awesome. I own Invisible War on the Xbox. It was cool playing both on PC, but I can confidently say I don't think I ever want to go through that headache again (weird resolution tweaking, constant crashes and bugs, etc). I'm assuming the Xbox version of Deadly Shadows is a bit more playable. I don't recall Invisible War having any issues. Maybe the loading times are worse, but oh well.
But yeah, apparently there's still some brand new unopened games for the Xbox on Amazon for cheap here and there.

Not that I have an official list, but Jedi Knight is down for the count.
Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
Missed a few days, but I finally got back to Diablo 2 tonight and finished off Act 2.
Act 2 was more interesting than act 1, with some nested quests that didn't complete in order. It also featured some rather annoying enemies, such as some large bugs that spew lightning across the ground upon death, and a variety of bastards that can poison you.
It's still very easy, which I only point out as a standard because the boss of this act suddenly turned up the heat to a ridiculous degree. I looked him up and it seems he's considered to be one of the game's tougher encounters, so at least it's not just me. He killed me several times before I finally whittled him to death. Not my finest hour.
I am enjoying the game more now than I was. Don't really know why, it's the same stuff.
Anyway, Act 3 looms.

Huh, well, Call of Duty 2 is pretty short. I knocked it out over the weekend too. This means that it's time I approach Might and Magic III. Popo's write ups have had me hankering to play, and I'm happy to say I fired it up last night, created my new party, and started exploring the basics. I suck, but most of my guys are only level 1 at this point, so I'm not surprised.
I'll probably be posting my updates on this one in the Together RPG thread for it. Hopefully a couple other folks will join Popo and I.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
I'm impressed by the progress a bunch of you have made already!
Since Legend of Zelda got me in the mapping mood, I decided to move on to Metroid 2: Return of Samus. I busted out the Gameboy Pocket for daytime couch gaming, and moved on to the Gameboy Player at night.
Now look. This game is creepy. The tone is way different from the NES original, which felt lonely and spacious. This one feels claustrophobic, and you're always anticipating metroid ambushes as you hunt them down. You'll come across their molted skins as you journey on, knowing in your heart that this always means one is close by, watching, waiting... and despite being the most incredible bounty hunter in the galaxy, it will give you a millisecond of pause.
Let's just say my tablet beeped its low battery warning while I was playing tonight, and I nearly jumped out of my skin.
So, I'm enjoying it so far. It seems to be going pretty quickly, despite the substantial map. I've already got most of the abilities, and even the Varia suit, and I still have 20 metroids to find.
My fear is that this game will wind up being one of those situations where you can't find the last one or two things you're searching for no matter how long you look. But we'll see, because this game also does seem to guide you more linearly than the first.

You actually can't progress to new sections of the map until you've cleared out all the metroids in an area if I recall correctly, so you should be OK.Key-Glyph wrote:I'm impressed by the progress a bunch of you have made already!

It's been quite some time since I last played it though, so like Zelda, don't quote me on that!
