damn, what a great time (financially) to be a PC gaming enthusiast, eh? I'm not a big AMD fan myself - but I say that and have R7's in both of my cheap builds, haha. And I hadn't even thought about the inevitable "1060."

I am not a fan boy and have no alliance to either (same with intel / AMD), though I have not bought an AMD since the Athlon 64 because intel have been better value for money. I used Nvivia for about 5 generations before moving to AMD for my R9 290, because the value for money was there.

Again, I am all about the best product at the best price. Fuck alliances, beyond anything the competition is good for everyone. Better prices and better products.

I agree - which is why I have two AMD cards in use right now. But I prefer Nvidia for my main rig for multiple perks (GSync monitor, Shield streaming, etc) and it seems like Geforce is always putting out new "game ready" drivers for new releases which I like, personally. But I've bought way more AMD cards while putting together builds that are more mindful of bang-for-buck, both for myself and others.

I agree with your reasoning for sure. It is much harder to change when you invest in an eco system, I have been so close to buying a FreeSync monitor, but decide I would wait until my next generation just in-case. Because I don't want to be trapped in an AMD eco system.

yeah the ecosystem thing is real, haha. But it's fine. I'm happy with Geforce for my main rig.

I just read more about the AMD RX 480, though. Damn, man. I had it in the back of my mind that whenever I upgraded the R7 250 in my arcade standing desk rig it'd probably be for a GTX 960. But now I'm not so sure. The 480 will be out this month and will out-spec it at the same price-point. Not that I'm in any rush at all there. The 250 is perfectly functional and the only game I've had to lower any graphical settings for has been Street Fighter V.

At any rate, I think we're gonna see some major sales and price drops on cards this year. Which is awesome for gamers.

Also probably means that 970-980 level performance will hit upgraded Playstations and Xboxes pretty soon

yeah I think that's coming to the Xbox One rev.3 and PlayStation 4.5.2 in 2017.

Honestly I've had ZERO problems with my MSI R7 290 for the past three years. It's a lovely little machine. I appreciate the quality you get with AMD platforms. I think the only upgrade I need for my rig in the next few years is a data drive. I run a sole SSD with 120 GB and so it fills up. But my Internet Speed is soaring so it's never an issue if I need to redownload a title.
