Discussion of game backup, reproduction, burning, and ripping. Covers ROM backup, cartridge reproduction, optical disc ripping, burning, and storage. Focus on archival purposes and not deceptive selling.

I might could do the Dreamcast "GDEMU" too, if needed.
I own each of these (except a Phoebe, but assuming you have the right jumpers on the right system, they install and operate the same as my Rhea, minus CD+G compatibility).
If someone else wants the opportunity for a write up, by all means take it, as I might not get to them all.
If you could write something, that would be awesome! It doesn't have to be really long or detailed. Just links to the appropriate sites, major pros and cons, what you can and can't do with it.

Thanks for the info. It sort of crosses the lines of why someone might want a flash cart or a Retrode (playing translated SFC games, backing up SRAM). That's why I wanted to mention it, as another option for someone that might be interested in those particular features.
Yeah I know, that was the appeal to me, not the ROM dumping but the other perks since it's hard to get dedicated time on the TV with a little one around. The pop to menu instant saving bit is a life saver when I use it. Yet the truth be told after all the drama of an original broken one and screw ups replacing it many times from hyperkin and ultimately getting a black one too, I've put next to no hours on it at all. I ended up getting a Genesis at the beginning of last November and would rather be on that. I'm strongly considering selling the nearly new thing that's just collecting dust.
There is so much good stuff already released and or on the horizon. I'm definitely waiting on a GBA Everdrive and the one for the Lynx, I wish I had expressed an interest in it when I first saw the thread.
Can anyone recommend a quality DS flash cart and the best place to purchase it from? I know of the R4i Gold and the DSTwo but not the best place to purchase one or even which one. I plan on playing it on my DS Lite or maybe a DSi if I find one cheap. Is there a better cart I should be looking at?
I'm also really considering purchasing a Dreamcast and GDEMU. Anyone have any thoughts on this product?

It depends on what you actually want to do. If you want to do emulations and play homebrews, you might want to buy a DSTwo as it has a built in processor.
If you just want to play DS games, I say just get a regular R4i Card. It's easy to use and plays games perfectly. I've never had a problem with it. Mine specifically is called the R4i-SDHC.
Go to this site called GBATemp. They have a big community pretty much dedicated to Nintendo Handheld flashcarts and have links to legit online retailers.

I have the R4 for my DS and an EverDrive for my RetroDuo. I love both of them. They are both easy to use and navigate the menus. The EverDrive has some crazy features I have no idea what they do, but there is no complaint about that, just pointing it out.
The R4 card was cheap... around $15. The EverDrive however was $100, but well worth the money IMHO.
The RetroDuo works perfectly. I haven't tried an NES game in it though, so I can't comment on that end. The SNES runs just fine.

Yes, thank you. I'm wanting to play DS games and translations. I don't need GBA or anything else really.
I see Chibi-Robo JPN DS is fully translated but I can only find the patch and I have no idea what to do with that.

Got my Lynx SD cart in today... I like it. It only accepts 8.3 filenames (well... it'll accept more, but it'll truncate them, like it used to in a command line when you were on Windows9x), BUT they've got an awesome ability to add a screenshot of the game so that when you go down to the filename that you're pretty sure what it is and leave it there for a half second or so, it becomes the title screen for you and you're suddenly completely sure what it is!
I mean... I guess you could make it be whatever, but the packs that are being provided for it are pre-done with them as the title screen, which makes absolute sense to me.
Wanna write something up about it that I can put in the first post?
Again, it doesn't have to be super long and detailed. Just where you can get it from, the price, what you can do with it, what you can't do with it, pros and cons, and how is it compared to competing flash carts (if any exist).

Yeah I'll pull up something basic together on my weekend (which is gonna be Monday/Tuesday) for you, sure.
