They take a lot of machine gun or shotgun shells and they love to use those ground pounding shockwaves. Also just got introduced to the summoner the other night, very annoying how they teleport so much, hard to get a lock on them.

The Hell Knights are pretty brutal, they're really fast and hard hitting. Just wait until you meet their bigger brothers, the Barons.

I liked to chainsaw the summoners as well until I got the Gauss cannon.
Fuck those Hell Barons. Either I have awful luck with bugs or they can survive a BFG shot to the face.

They seem to take two BFG shots (well, one shot and then some amount of damage less than or equal to a second one).

The pistol is kind of dinky but it always was and it's supposed to be. It's fun head-shotting the mutant scientists with it anyway and I like that the gun itself is essentially a reference to the Quake 2 one.

So I got a little further in the game and there actually ARE some monster closets in the Hell levels. Very nice. I really want to finish blasting through the game but after each level I feel kind of overwhelmed and need to take a break.

If you have the fuel, the chainsaw kill on the Barons is FANTASTIC.

Yeah I was going to say, there's also some "ventilation drops" that put you in the middle of a room ready for intense action. Another nice replacement for the monster closets haha.

I'm having a lot of fun playing DOOM. I'm planning on a 2nd play-through on Nightmare after I finish my UV run. Playing without HUD, crosshairs, or GK flash seems like the right decision. Increases my immersion.

I love how the combat rewards offense and the optional trials in each level. This game in those respects and others reminds me of Ninja Gaiden II (X360).

I haven't touched the MP yet (did play the open beta though) or Snapmap.

Like I said earlier, I save my chainsaw fuel for the Summoners (though I've killed a couple Barons with the chainsaw when they skurred me). I kind of dig the pistol but that's because it's super fun to pop Possesseds' heads with it.

I think my favorite thing about the new Doom is just the excitement it's created. Coming here and having everyone just losing their shit over the various guns or friendly fire or all these little touches and then hearing stuff like the Idle Thumbs podcast raving about even the intro to the game or how smoothly it runs on modest hardware... I don't know, there's an enthusiasm that you don't often see surrounding single player FPS games as much these days. Almost reminds me of the era of OG Doom shareware and gushing over some secret you found with friends at a Junior High lunch table. In a good way.

There are few things as satisfying as gushing over an amazing game with a group of your friends, discussing where you are in the game and what your strategies are. I've enjoyed the discussions about Doom here almost as much as actually playing the game.
