As a new member at N-G, I can say it's not as bad as I thought it was. Some users are not friendly to factually wrong statements; newbies buying all the deals; making antagonizing or useless three-word-or-less statements; and not adhering to rules. Best advice is be cool and "just roll with the punches."KalessinDB wrote:KLOV (occasionally) and Neo-Geo are the main 2 that I know of. ArcadeOtaku occasionally, but their userbase is mostly European so shipping's gonna bump it up. NG has its flaws, and is kinda intimidating at first, but it's really not too hard to integrate as long as you don't make a beeline for the forums. Here, occasionally.

Re: Let's talk about your NEO GEO collecting + PRICE GUIDES
I'd likely sign up to n-g before klov as I browsed both forums and the NG one seems more active as far as interests go as the other just feels like an arcade operators/service board mostly which makes sense.
I've thought about Japanese sellers, but going through intermediaries seems like a hassle and as you noted for 1 or 2 games the shipping blows due to their postage rates + currency conversion. I'm finding australia and mexico far more palatable so far with that and oddly quite a few games come out of Cyprus (why? I don't know.)
The group buy I'd be down for if I had enough advance warning and a list of what's up for grabs with the price so I could wrangle it up if need be.
SO far I've been right place/time locally on the arcade cabinet but online more or less the same going under averages on ebay so far thankfully. The lot buy of 3 from mexico where the shipping for added games dropped from $20 to $4 helped that. I did see coinopstore on ebay, seems legit and the prices are nice but I really don't desire magical drop or kizuna encounter right now. I'm not too hung up on replaced stickers, I'd be a hypocrite if I was given I've preached enough for them to be allowed on a 1:1 quality on Nintendo carts which pissed off plenty of cash grab twits into it for the money.
Elkin: Damn fine deal there.
I may just have to sign up for the n-g forums and see how it rolls. Worst comes of it, I end up buying a NGPC again sometime this year.

While I'm thinking about it, I've got a spare Metal Slug 4 cart if anyone wants to take it off my hands. As JoeAwesome and I can both attest (originally traded it to him before we found out about this issue), however, it doesn't like MVS-to-AES converters (not sure if I just happened to get fatter PCBs or if it's a general Metal Slug 4 issue because both of my cartridges almost completely refuse to work with it), so you'd probably need to have an MVS cab.

Yep, legit boards, but maybe a better power supply would've helped. I think that might've been the issue with my setup, from what else I looked at.

Ah, I never thought that maybe the AES's power supply wouldn't have been enough. Then again, I don't know shit about hardware, so I don't even know if that would cause that kind of issue.JoeAwesome wrote:Yep, legit boards, but maybe a better power supply would've helped. I can get it to work on my AES if I get it in the converter as the EXACT perfect angle and don't breathe on it. Works no problem on my MVS, though.

What's Metal Slug 4 going for anyway these days? I just have 1 and 2 on MVS (3 and X on mobile.) I've never touched 4-6 and I know 6 was hacked for MVS but was just an AES release if i'm not mistaken.
I decided to make a n-g account, couldn't hurt to just roll in and see how it goes as it's active enough to bother. Just have to see if they decide to give me posting privileges.

Metal Slug 6 was only released on Atomiswave; the Metal Slug 6 floating around for MVS is just a slightly tweaked hack of Metal Slug 3 IIRC.Tanooki wrote:What's Metal Slug 4 going for anyway these days? Neo-Geo.com puts the value of MS4 at $65-$90, and the current eBay price for the American cart seems to be around $80 at the moment.

Re: Let's talk about your NEO GEO collecting + PRICE GUIDES
I stopped listing MVS stuff on here because the few guys who are into it here are all over on NG too. I can generally get just about anything you might want for less than ebay - just ask
I just sold a Mutation Nation for $80 last week - I have a few Last Blades and KoF 98's right now for sure.
There are multiple shops as Dave mentioned - but you need to get a recommendation for most of them to deal directly w/you - too many people ask for slow shipping and then file paypal claims and whatnot - some shops straight up won't deal w/Euros / Americans now, those that do generally want someone to vouch for you. Excellent (happy manor) will still respond to anyone via email - Sophia is hit or miss. Mak and Try straight up won't ship to US anymore. G-Front is very selective.
A proxy service can work - but you need to find the item for about 30% less than in the states for it to make sense. There is a service fee, a percentage fee, and a shipping fee. Example I bought an $80 item for $40. Service fee $6, percentage fee $4, shipping fee $18. I paid $68 for something I could have bought here for $80. There's savings to be had - but it isn't as significant as some would lead you to believe.
EDIT: MS4 is a $45 cart, $65 kit - all day. The NG price guide is years and years old. I maintain this one and it's pretty accurate. Xian Xi of Jamma-Nation-X also maintains one and there is also one on NeoGeoKult - but that one is generally higher because of Euro Neo Geo craziness.
Yes - Slug 6 is Atomiswave only - no official Neo release.

Re: Let's talk about your NEO GEO collecting + PRICE GUIDES
I appreciate it. I signed up to your neo-geo forum I see you're a decade member of.
The Last Blade I fell in love with oddly enough with the US release of it on the NGPC a good decade ago, solid mechanics even if it were chibi'd up a lot to work on the little portable (like all of those NG ports Takara did on GB too that work so so well (which I have Samurai Shodown1 and 3 on and KOF96 too.)
Priority for me I think would be non multi-cart titles, but a good deal on one, or one that I truly love like Neo Turf Masters or Super Dodgeball I'd buy anyway. Stuff like NAM1975, Cyber Lip and I know Metal Slug 5 are not on it. It seems to me with the savings being overstated on games and perhaps only being like 10-20% I'd probably rather deal in those cases with ebay just for their lame protections and the expediency of not waiting a month to get something. Given you said $80 for Mutation Nation is a good price I'm glad I did just that. That same lot was $10 for World Heroes and $71 for Spin Master (with $28 shipping from Mexico for that lot.) And then for $54 shipped was Ninja Combat was my first, and the other night I picked up for around $45USD (converted) shipped from Australia League Bowling.
That's it so far other than my earlier post of what 9 legit games +multicart I got with the cabinet a week and a half ago.
Right now I'd love to find the best android emulator and shove my games on my tablet for on the go. (Nevermind, grabbed neo.emu and discovered the wonderful world of es file manager which also freed up nearly 2GB of wasted space on that pos forced non-removable install of Trine2 I never wanted on there.)

Ahhhh Super Dodgeball. Great memories of the NES port. That and Nightmare in the Dark are 2 of the pricier titles I'm absently trying to lay my hands on.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
