It was the opposite for me. I feel like trophies and the chime are far more passive than the 360 achievements, which seemed really invasive and annoying. I still love playing a game further for trophies if I really enjoy the game, but otherwise I don't really care. I think you just get over it one day. Hopefully?Forlorn Drifter wrote:I know its a stupid question, but how do I learn to ignore trophies/achievements? I'm the same way, but like Xeogred said, I find it harder to ignore on Xbox. I play Playstation more, so I get more trophies than achievements, but it's a lot more abrupt on Xbox IMO.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I know its a stupid question, but how do I learn to ignore trophies/achievements? I think nowadays you can literally turn off the notifications though. At least, I remember the 360 rolling that out later on and I think the PS4 has it. Not 100% sure though.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
In terms of intrusiveness it's best on Steam, where you just have that little notification that pops up in the corner (and it's a fixed pixel size, so a higher resolution means it's a smaller percentage of the screen).

Yeah, I like Steam's achievements. I don't give a crap about them.MrPopo wrote:In terms of intrusiveness it's best on Steam, where you just have that little notification that pops up in the corner (and it's a fixed pixel size, so a higher resolution means it's a smaller percentage of the screen).

It bothered me to start, but I play so many games, and am so far behind anyone else in terms of trophies/points/cheevos that I really don't even care anymore. Other than a cool, "Ah, slick, I pulled off something interesting skill-wise."Forlorn Drifter wrote:I know its a stupid question, but how do I learn to ignore trophies/achievements? Also, I think you can disable the notifications, so that might help you ignore them.

Yes you can disable these achievement/trophy notifications on both systems.Sarge wrote:Also, I think you can disable the notifications, so that might help you ignore them.
I disabled them because they are immersion damaging fourth wall breaking crap I don't care about.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about not being able to resist completing achievements, not the notification being annoying. Maybe I'm wrong, but just in case:Forlorn Drifter wrote:I know its a stupid question, but how do I learn to ignore trophies/achievements? I've never been a big achievement person. For me if I did something naturally in the game and it triggered an achievement I thought of it as deserved. I always thought it was odd to purposely go after ones you wouldn't normally get playing the game naturally, although of course a lot of them pretty much require it.

Oh, I know that. But it's much easier to ignore the achievements if you're not getting them popping up in-game.
