Let me make something very clear. If you have a decent gaming PC, and you pass up this deal, you are a god damned idiot. Yes, you are. I don't care if this offends anyone. It's a fact. You should be ashamed. You have no excuse.
Unreal Tournament 3 seems to have this fucking plague about it. No matter what, people absolutely refuse to even try this game, and I don't know why. It's the epitome of competitive first person shooter. There is no better out there. Epic has created a phenomenal package here, and I am honestly saddened to see them get so little attention for it. Why does Valve get all the respect in the world, while Epic gets jack shit, despite both of them following very similar ideals?
Here we are, like a year after the game's flop of a launch, and Epic has been working their asses off for months building v2.0 and the Titan Patch for this game, which combined are probably the most massive PC game patch to anything in history.
Look, like I said, the game is free until Sunday night. Is FREE too expensive for you bastards?
Beyond that, it's just $12 to buy. Then on the 16th, it goes back to $20. Don't pass this up. I paid the full $50 when it launched and I regret nothing.
Also, for even more maps, none of the maps in the community bonus packs 1 or 2 were used in the patches from Epic, so install both of these for a huge addition.

UT3 mega patched / Free til Sunday / $12 til March 15th

I also own it and have been happy with the purchase. I bought it for $30 retail a while back and it has definitely been worth it. Its also nice that you can add the retail CD key to Steam, I wish more companies would do this.

I am literally praying to the gaming god that the next COH expansion incorporates Steam like Dawn of War 2 did, solely for the ability to never have to install off my COH:Gold retail disc again. It takes a fucking hour to install, and I don't know why. Even if it doesn't include steam standard, there will be a steam version of it, and I believe I could just incorporate my old keys into it, and get the same effect.Niode wrote:This, with bells on.Jayson wrote:Its also nice that you can add the retail CD key to Steam, I wish more companies would do this.

I've been a huge UT fan since I picked up the original UT 99. I've been playing 2k4 ever since that came out and there is still an active community there.
I bought UT3 when it launched, but it was a complete mess at launch. The server browser that I had come to expect from UT games just wasn't there and that really killed the game for me. I ended up selling the game because no one I knew was playing the game at that point. I've heard nothing but good things about the games progress since then, and I'm sure if they keep pushing, they will be able to build a good user base from the game. 2k3 was a bust, but they managed to get a great player base together by polishing and reworking the game and releasing 2k4; I have 100% faith that Epic is capable of doing the same thing with this game.
I'm definitely biting on this. Steam has been putting up same damn amazing deals. Their end of the year sale was amazing. At $5 dollars, they had Portal and Bioshock, which IMO are two of the top games that have come out...in the past decade. Anyone who didn't pick them up at that price is completely insane. Thank god for Steam; finally a digital distribution platform that actually has great deals (GOG rocks too BTW). I'm not sure how Direct2Drive and other platforms are going to remain competitive.

Honestly, the online communities for console games is very time limited for just about every game. For the PC, you can still find plenty of servers for the original UT, CS and other games that are around a decade old or even older. I'm not sure online multi-player for consoles will ever have the following that it does for the PC.IcKy99 wrote:i always loved the UT series but this one seems to have almost no big following at all SPECIALLY for the consoles, on PS3 i dont see any love for UT3
Epic really did botch the launch of this game, but there were still people who stuck with the game. With the updates and lowered price point, I would only expect the community to grow even more.

I played a game of Outlaws a month or two ago - there were 12 players online...

Honestly the game did come out in 97 and wasn't a massive hit either. I wouldn't imagine there being a ton of people playing a game over that is nearly 12 years old and wasn't a smash hit. Half Life came out in 98 and there are around 400 people playing right now and there are a couple hundred still playing Quake 2 at this moment. There's a few packed servers in each of those games and that's pretty much all I need to have a good time.fast wrote:I played a game of Outlaws a month or two ago - there were 12 players online...
