Unless your CRT is in a cabinet, then you could build something with a sheet of plywood, cabinet pulls and a vesa mount.
The top of my TV stand is flat, like a table, so it's not like a cabinet type entertainment center.
I was thinking that I could probably build the whole thing out of wood. I wouldn't even have to get a VESA mount, I could make my own as long as I get the right screws. I could mount 2x4's to the top of the TV stand, and possibly even the wall behind it so I wouldn't have to ever worry about it tipping or adding extra support. It wouldn't look pretty, but if it's wood, I could at least stain it to closely match the TV stand as possible. It wouldn't look horrible, but it wouldn't be elegant.
The only thing I would have to figure out is how to do the track system for it. Specifically, how to do it it so it locks in the top and bottom position. What do you mean by "cabinet pulls"?
I'm seriously considering doing this. I'd have to figure out a way to pipe the audio through the receiver. Maybe I can just do that on the CD input with a switch box, no big deal. It would be one bastard of a setup, that's for sure! It wouldn't be easy to change things around after the initial set up.
