The funny thing is, most people don't even know this tidbit of information, and Sonic 2 remains one of the most beloved titles in the franchise. It feels to me like since you've over analyzed it, it's ruined it for you.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:What made Sonic 2 less enjoyable was the trying factor as mentioned above, remember folks this was the only Sonic game to ever be almost entirely coded in the US. Add in that factor an you can't help but realize that yes it's gimmicky, yes it's slightly shallow, and yes it's been americanized. Thats why I don't like it as much as 3; two to me felt more like a cash in on the hype and publicity surrounding the genesis at the time.
My opinion of every Sonic game released.

Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
It's not that I've overanalyzed it it's just that 2 felt like it had slightly less polish than the others in the series.
Also I don't hate the game either for me it goes:
2D Games : Sonic 3&K, Sonic CD, Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3D Blast, Everything else.
3D Games : Sonic Adventure 1&2, Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn Special Stage), Sonic Jam - Sonic World, Everything else.

Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
1. Sonic the Hedgehog - 1991 - BEST
2. Sonic 2 - 1992 - WORSE
3. Sonic CD - 1993 - WORSENING MORE
4. Sonic 3 - 1994 - WORSENING STILL
5. Sonic & Knuckles - 1994 - WORSER
You are either joking... or your opinions have just been proven irrelevant.
As if it was even necessary to mention, many would agree that Sonic CD is definitely more enjoyable than part one and arguably the best of the first 3. Youve obviously never played it.
Oh, and sonic adventure is WAAAYYY more enjoyable than 3d blast! Again this silly list must have been a joke... it is somewhat funny i guess!
I would definitely rather play either sonic adventure than any 3d Mario garbage... but that may have something to do with my opinion that N64 is easily one of the absolute worst consoles of all time. The only Mario I play since the N64 disaster is New Super Mario on DS.
Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
How so? Some of the greatest games of all time were on the N64. Metacritic appears to back me up on this as well.nateup2 wrote:N64 disaster is New Super Mario on DS.
Mario 64 is by far greater than SA. I don't know how anyone can argue this.
Personally I think any opinions on games that were released before your first console are completely worthless. All you can possibly have is a jaded view on games not based on current technology. Reviewing games from years gone by has no relevance, especially if you don't know what the games were like when they were first published. You can't possibly compare things like ambience and immersion on games that were before you time.
You young 'uns just don't know what it was like when you first walked out onto hyrule field in 3D. That was earth shattering for me when I got Ocarina of Time on launch day. I was completely taken aback by the sheer scale of the game. Now when you've been spoiled by the likes of GTAIV or Oblivion, Ocarina of Time looks like a poor mini game full of clunky mechanics and blurry textures. That was the best we had back in the day and it was awesome. Mario 64 blew me away when I got my N64 on launch day. Immersion like that was just unheard of at the time. Having such smooth control over a character and having true freedom in a game for the first time was an amazing feeling.

Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
That's true, since the N64 was my first system, followed by PS1, I never really got the same feeling of "experiencing" the 3D. My favorite game from birth until I was six years old was Rush 2 (like many kids, I was way into cars.) 3D has always been second nature to me, and that's why the faults of games like Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 are infinitely magnified. I have no fond memories of them. They're no fun for me, but you guys who grew up in the Atari and NES years probably enjoy that stuff for the nostalgic value.Niode wrote:How so? Why does everyone think I am joking? Yes I've played Sonic CD and most every other 2d/3d Sonic games.nateup2 wrote: You are either joking... or your opinions have just been proven irrelevant.

Reasons why Sonic 1 is the best in the series:
1) It was a novel concept, featured a unique and interesting character, and was able to demonstrate the potential of the console (a harbinger of great Genesis games to come). It gets big points for originality.
2) It has the best level design of the series. This is not debatable.
3) It did not feature gamepaly gimmicks (spin-dash, grabbing, climbing, etc.).
4) It did not include Tails, Knuckles, or any other cutesy B.S. (a side argument can be made that the more characters a Sonic game adds the worse it gets). Sonic rescued cute creatures, but he was assuredly not the pussified mascot he'd later become.
5) It has trippy-ass M.C. Escher special stages that have not yet been topped in the whole of the series.
I could go on, but I digress...
LOL at "irrelevant opinion." I will counter that mine is clearly the only "correct opinion" on the entire matter.
Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
While I don't think anyone disagrees the Sonic 1 is a great, great game and high up there when it comes to Sonic games, I think that the way you posted your opinion and the fact that your basically slamming everything that followed, even though Sonic CD, Sonic 3, S&K, etc. are all quality games makes people assume you were joking.
Let's just agree to disagree. Opinions, assholes, you know the drill.

I wanted to be a Teminator but they require you have an armored hyperalloy skeleton and mine's mostly recycled truck tires.

As Ack said, my "ranking" of the games was all half in jest. I do get a kick out of how defensive people get about video games and, even moreso, their own righteous personal opinions about them. Thus the comment about mine being "correct." I guess if you don't write " /sarcasm " after a post some people don't catch on...
That said, I did enjoy the other 2D sonic game - just not as much as the first one (for the reasons I stated).

You are pure comedic entertainment as well... all over the place with your intentions and only settling on one when a member you must think is really cool basically fabricated it for you! And sooo painfully obvious. lololololAs Ack said, my "ranking" of the games was all half in jest. Half.
