Picking back up on an RPG... almost 11 years later...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Picking back up on an RPG... almost 11 years later...

Post by Flak Beard »

I was going through my PS1 memory cards the other day, and noticed I had a Breath of Fire 3 save with 37+ hours on the clock. It dawned on me I had never finished this game. I borrowed it from a friend back in high school, but he moved away before I was done.

That was so long ago, I knew I would have no idea what I was doing or what had happened if I jumped back into the game. So I decided to read a script of the game I found online, and it came back that I had stopped playing once I arrived to Junk Town.

Anyway, I ordered a copy of the game today so I'll be finishing this once and for all. Anyone else here ever pick back up on an RPG (or other game) several years later?

I discovered one day a couple years ago that I had a Final Fantasy Tactics save with all my characters at level 99 with several jobs maxed out, and I had only gotten as far as Sweegy Woods.

Also, Breath of Fire III is probably my favorite in that series. I absolutely loved it, and I really wish I hadn't lost my copy.

To tell you the truth, I'm probably more excited about getting this game in my hands again than any other new purchase in a long time. Kind of like when I bought Megaman 3 for the second time.

I really can't get back into an RPG if I let it sit for more than a couple weeks. I like to keep in a grove with RPGs. That's why I pretty much only play one at a time. I got to Zanarkand in FF X and stopped playing for about a year. When I picked it back up again, I ended up starting over and playing through the whole thing again.

I liked BoF 3, but I've always really liked the whole series. Despite the pretty awful translation effort that was put into the SNES versions, they were two of my favorite games from that system. Hell, I even liked Dragon Quarter.

I picked up Dragon Warrior III (GBA) a few years after stopping... just short of the final dungeon. I basically looked at a walkthrough and went back to all the places I should have gone until I found some place I hadn't visited.

Before that, I took about a whole year to play through Golden Sun. Something like a year after that, I bought Golden Sun: The Lost Age, but I wanted to replay the original so I would remember what was going on. And it took me another year to get through Golden Sun that time, too. By the time I finally got to The Lost Age, I had almost forgotten what I had been doing anyhow!

My oldest savegame I know of is a 6 year old medal of honor savegame for PS1.

I got the game in the mail today, and it seems I was farther than I thought. I'm actually in Dragnier doing the trial with the elder. Damn he's hard!

If it makes you feel better, I never finished FF7, 8, or 9, despite having owned them all for at least 4 years.

And I have no intention to complete them either.
