You are mad Xumy.

I've been really into Valis lately. Anyone try out the old 8-bit games? I think I may track 'em down.

I say that because, before the Endless Ocean games were developed, Arika had already been developing scuba diving adventure games on PS2, indeed called Everblue and Everblue 2. Everblue 2 even got a domestic USA release! But not Everblue.

The resale store near Campus has had a copy of Endless Ocean staring at me for 10 bucks every time I go in there for months, and I always think of you when I see it. What's the gameplay like? Is it just pretty oceans to look at? I'm just curious if there's a game to it.

Endless Ocean and its sequel are amazing games. They are damn near my all time favorite Wii games actually. I'll try to restrain myself but ermuhhfuggginn

The gameplay is slightly different between Endless Ocean and Blue World. But they are similar enough to describe as scuba diving adventure games. Endless Ocean focuses on being more relaxing and realistic, whereas Blue World is more "game-like", with a more obvious linear mission structure and concrete objectives. Both games have independent story lines and are in fact beat-able, as in completing them and seeing credits. I went back and found my HLTB reviews for both games, so here you go:

Endless Ocean
A very entrancing game that is excellent for explorers at heart. If you are an adrenaline junkie you will likely find this game too slow paced. However, if you just want to relax and uncover a huge sea's mysteries while also unraveling an interesting tale of myth and legend, you'll have a great time here. Graphics are fantastic, music is sweet, and the atmosphere is in a class of its own. A must have for Wii IMO. I won't give this game higher than an 8/10 because there's a few things that could have been better, but it's not worth getting into in that level of detail... just know that Endless Ocean is a great game. Also, Endless Ocean is actually the third game in Arika's diving simulator series. A more apt title would have been "Everblue 3: Endless Ocean". If you're interested in earlier entries, you'll find Everblue and Everblue 2 on the Playstation 2. And of course, Endless Ocean: Blue World on the Wii is the sequel to this game itself.

Endless Ocean: Blue World
Endless Ocean: Blue World is a hybrid of scuba simulation, puzzle solving & dialogue choosing adventure, action-RPG, and themepark management. To say Blue World is content rich and full of things to do would be an understatement. Join a rag tag band of diving specialists and seek out a mythical treasure, all while doing as many copious sidequests as you see fit. Some of the best graphics you can find on Wii will draw you into this aquatic fantasy as the hours drift away. Endless Ocean: Blue World is a constantly rewarding, forward thinking, and entirely innovative experience that open minded gamers should dive deeply into indeed.

Wonderful wonderful experiences IMO. I wish I could replay them with VR. Maybe some day using Dolphin and a decent headset it will be possible. Although the scarier parts like exploring the abyssal plains and underground temples might be a bit much.

Sorry, chief. The only Valis games I've played were 16-bit.

I'll back up Ex that Endless Ocean is a great game. I still haven't played Blue World (I will), but the first game was engrossing, and there's lots of stuff to do.

Well worth the 10 bucks, if you're considering it Partridge.

Xumy pretty much sold me on it. Definitely gonna pick up that bad boy when I go back to campus tomorrow.

I've been looking for games that lack a sense of urgency to play with my SO, and I think these will be right up her alley :)
Also I think these'll look great on an HD Wii, especially the scary sharkses.

The first Endless Ocean is very chillax. Except for when you dive into an abyssal trench. Then it is not. Oh god... it is not.

If the first EO is a bit too chillax for you though, its sequel Blue World has faster pacing and is much more linear with more concise and obvious mission objectives. Both are worth owning because they are unique in their own ways.

Yeah, yall have sold me on it, too.

Related, does anyone know if the Playstation VR only works with Playstation 4, or can I use it as a TV-on-my-face with any HDMI device? It wouldn't be true VR, but if it does work that way, it might be cool to play Endless Ocean on my Wii U plugged into PS VR.

As far as I understand, I haven't heard anything about PSVR being able to be used with anything other than the PS4. I'm not sure Sony would even want that to be a thing, but I guess we'll have to see.

I'd be totally down for just a VR huge-screen television on the moon though. That'd be sick. I'd imagine the Oculus or the Vive would do something like that first though.

There are already multiple ways to do virtual theater or screen type things. Or things like vorpX that are more game specific and can try to do VR-ish stuff.

Fidelity is a small issue there - you can get the feeling of watching in a theater, but not the on-screen clarity (even if it's high res enough to not look blocky, there's still the screen door effect).

Still, personal theater stuff seems pretty simple to do, with even Cardboard having apps for it. So there'd be little technical reason for PSVR not to have it.
