Yeah, you're probably right there. But it's more fun to speculate on the level of historical realism in equipment and tactics off of a single trailer then to resign ourselves to what we know it'll actually be.Ack wrote:Or possibly later, depending on who is using Stoßtruppen tactics. If we see Ottoman forces or Italian Arditi using them, then we're in 1917. Assault is supposed to be a separate class from medic now, so...yeah. That could be the case. Now what I want to know is whether German soldiers will get a choice of straight or serrated bayonets?MrPopo wrote:Has to be 1916 since there's tanks.
Honestly, it's probably just going to be a large cluster of different gear from different times in a nebulous setting.

While an extremely effective psychological weapon, the German chemical weapon program during the first world war was actually very inefficient for killing enemy soldiers due to the exposure needed to kill and the time required for symptoms to manifest. It was certainly much faster and more effective than the previously used chlorine gas and phosgene, but it was more effective for making enemies scared and careless than for actually eliminating enemy soldiers.

It's cool that this and CoD are finally going to completely different extreme ends of spectrum...
But uh, let's see with DICE and EA here... BF3 and BF4 both sounded universally bad. People already don't even talk about Hardline. And it's shameful how much Battlefront sold, because it wasn't even half of a full game.
It's a bit hard to really care with all that going on recently.

Re: Battlefield 1
Most people who are Battlefield fans who I know really enjoyed BF3 and BF4. Hardline was a very stupid move on their part though with how little it actually changed for what they priced it at. I really don't know why it wasn't just a 15 or 20 dollar expansion to BF4 tbh.Xeogred wrote:It's cool that this and CoD are finally going to completely different extreme ends of spectrum...

Why? WHY ISN'T IT CALLED BATTLEFIELD 1916????? Battlefield 1 is literally the worst thing they could've called it, short of just calling it "Battlefield." "BattleMcFieldface" would've been a better name than taking the Microsoft route.
Hideously stupid name aside, I'm very interested to how they make trench warfun in this age of very arcadey shooters, so while I won't be buying it, I'm interested to see what it tries to do to portray the 2 or 3 years of horrible stalemate. Maybe they'll focus on the Eastern Front. That's be neat.

I'm talking a little out of my butt there since I never played BF3-4 myself, but yeah. All my friends didn't sound they cared for them that much and liked Bad Company 2 more, which I absolutely loved. They'd sell me on a sequel to that one haha.
Re: Battlefield 1
BF3 and 4 weren't bad they just weren't as groundbreaking as BF2 and BC2. BF2 was pretty much perfection as far as serious players went the balancing, map design, and game play were very well polished. BC2 was great for pretty much the same reasons with the added bonus of probably the best destructibility featured in a FPS MP game so far.
BF3 and BF4 stripped down the destructibility and the maps weren't anything particularly amazing when compared to their predecessors. The addition of somewhat generic and mediocre single player campaigns didn't earn them brownie points with many people either. BF4 really got my hopes up since they brought back commanders and it appeared like destructibility was back but it was hard to find a decent commander and destructibility was still pretty limited with a few set pieces tossed in.
Hardline is kind of a joke I think I paid sub $10 for it and was still pretty disappointed worst SP and MP out of the series so far.
I still don't know why the restricted Battlefield 1943 to PS3 that really pissed me off when I heard it and I never got around to playing it. Not even sure if it's available or active anymore.

I miss titan mode and think it would be simply amazing with an updated engine. BF2142 also had some really awesome vehicles and class tools. Would love for them to one day do a HD port of BF2 and BF2142 think there would be a pretty solid market for those.

Re: Battlefield 1
I've been wanting a WW1 based game since BF1942 came out. So, I am very excited about that aspect. The game itself looks incredible.
The name is ridiculously stupid. It almost sounds like a tie in with Xbox 1 at this point. Battlefield 1916, or something like that would have been much better.
I actually really like Battlefield 2142, but I've never met anyone else whom did. The ones I don't like in the series are BF2 (I know I'm alone on that one), and the worst one, Vietnam.

Re: Battlefield 1
BF3 was just painfully "okay." Never played 4 or Hardline, so I can't judge that. It may end up being ridiculously disappointing, but I'm still super hyped for Battlefield 1.
