Battlefield 1

Post by MrEco »

So the newest Battlefield game recently got announced, with a rather interesting title. It's not a remake of the first Battlefield, it's just set in World War 1.

http://gematsu.com/2016/05/battlefield- ... -announced

So, what do you all think? Personally I'm intrigued. I've been thoroughly bored of all the modern and near-future FPS games that have been common the last few years and hoping for a return to an older time period, and I've never played a game set in WW1.

I wonder if horses will work in the competitive meta...

I think the title is stupid, but I'm super stoked about the game. I've got the limited edition pre-ordered.

The title makes sense to me. The first one was Battlefield 1942, so using the 1 denomination for a Battlefield based around WWI isn't a bad move.

As for the setting, there aren't many games based around WWI, though I've been clamoring for an FPS set in that period for years. I look forward to rushing into French trenches and machinegun fire in the wake of artillery barrages after sitting for weeks in knee-high muck, corpses, and rats.

Also, the flammenwerfer is in! You're all getting werfed by my flammen!

Yeah, there's that one game on GOG set in a WWI that's lasted for 60 years, but that's not the same thing. And Verdun is multiplayer only. I like the concept of what they're doing here; I'm just going to wait for reviews of the single player before I pick it up or not.

Has to be 1916 since there's tanks.

I think it sounds awesome. Actually the reveal makes me want to install that copy of Battlefield 1942 that I have.

Mustard Gas for great victory  .

I think the sniper combat is going to wreck the game if they go to realistic though since we are talking WWI so flat land with a lot of open space although they will probably get a little creative with tunnels and or debris to try and solve that though. Having to do uniform charges maybe with some AI bodies tossed in to pad the inevitable ass pounding would be awesome, but I doubt EA has the balls to do that outside of single player  .

Edit:
As for the name its kind of bland in my opinion as well. It's similar to how I feel about the Xbox One naming  .

Or possibly later, depending on who is using Stoßtruppen tactics. If we see Ottoman forces or Italian Arditi using them, then we're in 1917. Assault is supposed to be a separate class from medic now, so...yeah. That could be the case. Now what I want to know is whether German soldiers will get a choice of straight or serrated bayonets?

Honestly, it's probably just going to be a large cluster of different gear from different times in a nebulous setting.

Actually it looks like many of the maps will be mountainous terrain or in deserts. Snipers will likely be stuck using single-shot weapons and limited scopes while dealing with debris, demolition of buildings, gas, and artillery barrages, not to mention an ongoing air campaign. I think the conditions they'll be putting up with will hinder some of the sniper-types. But if it ends up a sniper-heavy game, well...just more realism to not sticking your head out of the trench and letting the game turn into a grinding standstill.
